The Brussels 4-Hers met for their
fourth and fifth meeting at the
home of Julia Mitchell.
The president introduced Marg
Saxon, who was the guest for this
meeting. She taught the basics of
sign language. Members discussed
the simple signs people use for
thank you and each received a sheet
with the sign language alphabet.
After the demonstration they
played a game where each person
received a word and they were to
say one word on the sheet and so
on. The purpose for this game was
about talking in front of people.
The next meeting was about
recycling. To start things off the
youth leader showed things that can
be recycled or reused, then one
leader told how to create something
from the containers she had
brought. Members made baskets
from strawberry quarts, a
caterpillar from an egg carton and
repainted a t-shirt.
The next topic was judging. For

There's been a change at one
Brussels business.
Last week, Cardiff and Mulvey
Real Estate and Insurance Ltd. split
to form two companies, Sholdice
Insurance Ltd., owned by Doug
Sholdice and Cardiff and Mulvey
Real Estate Ltd., owned by Keith
Mulvey.
Sholdice, who was born and
raised in Brussels, joined Cardiff
and Mulvey in January 1984. A
few years later he began purchasing
shares in the company. The move
was towards realizing a longtime
career plan.
"In our business you have to plan
for the future," said Sholdice. Due
to many reasons, such as licensing
requrements takeovers must be
gradual, he explains.
While Mulvey will now handle
all the real estate, Sholdice Insur-
ance will offer general insurance,
such as personal, auto, commercial
and farm, as well as life and dis-
ability, travel and investments,
including RSPs, GICs, equity funds
and eventually Mutual funds.
The staff, Mary Bone, an
employee for 25 years with the
company and part-timers Michelle

will continue to provide office sup-
port.
Sholdice said the move has been
a positive one for his family as well
as himself. "I have always wanted
to be in business for myself. I am
feeling really great about this
opportunity."
this they used plants. The youth
leader demonstrated how to judge
then each judged and gave reasons.
On April 4 the Brussels Handy
Helpers met at Rocking R Stables
for their achievement. Sarah
Garland, a sister of 4-H member
Rachel Garland, along with Wendy
from the stables showed how to
groom and care for a horse as well
as riding position and gaiter of a
horse.
