RUTH WEBSTER
After a courageous battle with
cancer for over three years, Ruth
Louise (Howatt) Webster of Blyth
passed away peacefully at home on
Wednesday, March 25, 1998.
Ruth was born at Westfield to
Ferne and Edgar Howatt and
attended Goderich Collegiate.
She worked as a short order cook
and waitress at the Brunswick
Hotel, then at the Wallace Turkey
Restaurant and was also a nanny at
several area homes.
Ruth was married on Aug. 30,
1958 to David Webster and settled
in the Blyth area. Ruth was blessed
with three children: Stephen,
Timothy and Pauline. While raising
her family, Ruth also entertained
farm vacationers from all parts of
the world and also worked at the
Old Mill, south of Blyth, for a
number of years. In 1984, Ruth
courageously went into business for
herself after purchasing Ray
Madill's store and put in a clothing
and footwear store.
She is survived by her loving
husband David. She was the dear
mother of Stephen Webster of
Blyth, Timothy Webster of New
York and' Pauline and Mark Gregg
of Blyth. The dear daughter of
Edgar and Ferne • Howatt of
Belgrave, she was also a beloved
sister of Doreen Taylor and her
husband Bill, Ivan Howatt and his
wife Connie, Dorothy Bogie and
her husband Mel, Douglas Howatt
and his wife Sherry and Ronald
Howatt. She was the loving
grandmother of Brandy Kristina,
Sheila and Richard. Ruth was also
loved by her many nieces,
nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.
An infant brother, Gordon
predeceased her.
A memorial service was held at
Trinity Anglican Church, Blyth on
Sunday, March 29 at 2:30 p.m.
with Rev. Nancy Beale officiating.
Spring interment in Blyth Union
Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial
donations may be made to Trinity
Anglican Church or to the Blyth
Festival.
Ruth will be missed on Blyth's
main street after serving Blyth and
area for many years.

JACOBMINA SIERTSEMA
Jacobmina Siertsema of
Huronview Home for the Aged
died at Seaforth Hospital on
Monday, March 23, 1998. She was
93.
Born in the Netherlands on Aug.
12, 1904, she was the daughter of
the late Hebo Blokzyl and
Geetruida Hagenouw.
She was married to Albertus
Siertsema who predeceased her in
1982.
A housewife, she was a member
of the Blyth Christian Reformed
Church.
Mrs. Siertsema is survived by her
children, Teresa and Hielke
Roetcisoender of Auburn, Murray
and Doreen Siertsema of Blyth,
Hebo and Margaret Siertsema of
Blyth, Greta and Don Greidanus of
Londesboro, John and Kathleen
Siertsema of Bayfield, Siebolt and
Annie Siertsema of Auburn, Tom
and Mieneke Siertsema of Owen
Sound and Betty and Clarence
Baker of Beaverton.
She is also survived by one sister
and by one brother in Holland.
Also surviving are 35 grand-
children and 44 great-grand-
children.
Along with her husband Albertus
who predeceased her in 1982, Mrs.
Siertsema was predeceased by one
grandson Harry Siertsema in 1997,
one infant granddaughter, two
infant great-grandchildren, four
brothers and one sister.
Visitation was held at the
Beattie-Falconer Funeral Homes
"Tasker Chapel: in Blyth on
Wednesday, March 25, with the
funeral service being held on
Thursday, March 26, at Blyth
Christian Reformed Church. Rev.
Adrian Van Geest officiated.
Interment in Blyth Union
Cemetery.
BERT EDWARD DAER
Bert Edward Daer of Blyth died
in Clinton on Wednesday, March
25, 1998. He was 88.
Born in Hullett Twp. on June 20,
1909, he was the son of the late
Samuel H. and Mary Jane
(Tuberville) Daer. He was married
to the former Dorothy Vodden.
He was a retired Hullett Twp.
farmer, and a member of Blyth
United Church.
Mr. Daer is survived by his
children, Isabel and Peter Campbell
of Wingham, Ross and Evelyn
Daer of Auburn, Edward and
Nancy Daer of Wingham, Ken
Daer and Janice Cosgrove of
Clinton, Lorne and June Daer of
New Hamburg and Laura and Fred
Laurence of Blenheim.
He is also survived by one sister-
in-law, Ruth Pipe, twenty grand-
children, 12 great-grand-children,
six step-great-grand-children and
one step-great-great-grandchild.
He was predeceased by one sister
and by one brother.
The funeral service was held at
Beattie-Falconer Funeral Homes
"Tasker Chapel" in Blyth on
Saturday, March 28 with Rev.
Stephen Huntley of Blyth United
Church officiating.
The flower bearers were Janice
Daer-Dethomasis and Dori Taylor.
The pallbearers were Ted East,
Carmen Gross, Harold McClin-
chey, Alex Nethery, Lawrence
Plaetzer and Gordon Plunkett.
Interment in Blyth Union
Cemetery.
SARAH "MERETTA"
YOUNGBLUT
Sarah Meretta Youngblut of
Huronlea in Brussels, formerly of
Auburn, passed away, Friday,
March 27, 1998, in Wingham. She
was 89.
She was a member of Monkton
United Church.
Born in Draper Twp., March 9,
1908, she was the daughter of the
late William and Rebecca (Patti-
son) Harrison.
She was the dear stepmother of
Keith and Tina Youngblut, Ross
Youngblut, Patricia Rush, Stewart
Youngblut, Lynn and Amanda
Youngblut, Lyle and Yvonne
Youngblut, Helen and Don Smith,
Bruce and Sharon Youngblut, Betty
Youngblut, Murray Youngblut,
Marjorie Withrow, Marion and
Sam Warren and Margaret Young-
blut.
Mrs. Youngblut was the beloved
grandmother of 18 step-grandchil-
dren and nine step-great-grandchil-
dren.
She was survived by many nieces
and nephews.
Mrs. Youngblut was predeceased
by her husbands, William Dodd in
1973, and Major Youngblut in
1987, her son, William Dodd Jr. in
1964, one brother, Herbert Harrison
and one sister, Violet Carter.
The funeral service was held,
March 29, at Beattie-Falconer
Funeral Home, Tasker Chapel,
Blyth. Rev. Todd McDonald of
Monkton United Church, officiat-
ed.
Heather Smith and Rebecca
Youngblut carried the floral trib-
utes and pallbearers were Bruce
Youngblut, Lyle Youngblut, Lynn
Youngblut, Don Smith, Sam War-
ren and Stan Debus.
Interment was at Ball's Cemetery.

For her years of service as secretary-treasurer of the
Blyth Area Fire Board Bonna Rouse received recognition
at a special dinner on Friday night. Blyth Fire Chief Paul
Josling presented her with a commemorative gift.
