Brussels Livestock report Holly Park Packers buy Kada steer for $102.50 The sales at Brussels Livestock for the week ending March 27 were: fed cattle, 629; cows, 256; veal and bob calves, 430; lambs and goats, 896; and stockers, 1,656. The choice and exotic steers and heifers sold fully steady, with second cut selling a little lower. Cows sold $1 to $2 higher. Veal sold on a steady market with lambs selling $10 to $20 lower. All classes of stockers sold on a steady trade. There were 304 steers on offer selling from $89 to $94 to the high of $102.50. Twenty-seven steers consigned by Kada Farms, Bluevale, averaging 1,379 lbs. sold for an average of $92.96 with a limousin steer weighing 1,370 lbs. selling to Holly Park Packers for $102.50. A group of local poultry fanciers and "backyard" enthusiasts felt a local sale for their extra birds was needed. A new executive consisting of Barb Storey, Gerald Groothuis, Barry Cleave, George Townsend and Fred Peel has made some changes for the show. An auction will be at 11 a.m., conducted by Jim Campbell. The event will be held in the barn section. The Farmers' Market will feature local produce and meats. The Blyth Venturers will be selling rutabagas so they can go whitewater rafting. Fresh baking, maple syrup, beef, pork and poultry from area farms will be for sale or orders taken for future use.
