As profit margins in cash crops and livestock farm operations get smaller, farm
drainage is one of the best investments a farmer can make in his land. Tile drainage
offers early drying of soils, allowing earlier spring tillage and more timely planting. At
harvest-time, combines can work longer hours if the weather has been poor. It takes
less fuel to plow, cultivate and harvest in good soil conditions. Good, systematic tile
drainage will improve the soil environment for microbial activity, encourage good root
development and make more useful moisture available to plants. The result is greater
yield of healthier crops.
Quality drainage tubing is produced by IDEAL DRAIN TILE LTD. at plants in Arva
and Blenheim, Ontario where drainage tubing is produced from 2 to 30 inches in
diameter. As well as drainage tubing, IDEAL DRAIN TILE LTD. supplies a complete
range of drainage fittings 2" - 36", including couplers, elbows, tees and reducers as
well as filter envelopes for fine sands and silty soils. They also supply steel culverts,
arch pipes, outlet pipes, copper & polyethylene waterline, PVC sewer pipe & fittings-
water main, filter blanket & geotextile drain wraps, catch basins and grates, sump well
liners, drop inlets and basement guard.
Surface inlets are perfect for preventing ponding and stopping erosion at ditchbanks
and low-spots in fields. IDEAL DRAIN TILE LTD. has a heavy duty corrugated pipe
inlet which is bright red for visibility in the field.
IDEAL DRAIN TILE LTD. is owned and operated by CLARKE FAMILY HOLDINGS
INC.. Head office is maintained in Arva with locations in Clinton, Blenheim, St.
Thomas and Stratford under the name JUST PIPE. If you're in need of any of these
fine products, contact the people at IDEAL DRAIN TILE LTD., manufacturers of

Lest year on March 5 tundra
swans were stopping over in
Cranbrook three weeks early. This
year some 150 swans stopped over
in the inundated fields just south of
Cranbrook!
Spring is here — Canada geese,
blue herons, robins, finches and
kildeer have arrived!
Peter Hagedoorn visited his sister
in Montreal. The devastation from
the ice storm is still very much
there. All along Hwy. 401 from
Kingston to the east and in
Montreal not a tree stands
undamaged. Parks are littered with
tangles of fallen wood. There has
been no chance to clean up yet.
Branches were just moved to the
side of the road. All over in the city
roofing companies are busy!
Euchre party will be held on
April 3 at Cranbrook Hall. Bee-ing good spellers
Blyth Optimists, Vice President Sheron Stadelmann and Zone Lieutenant-Governor Fred
deBoer were on hand to award prizes to the winners of the Optimist sponsored Zone
spelling bee. From left: Jim Morris and Chris Cronin, both of St. James in Seaforth took first
and second, respectively, while Laura Armstrong of Grey Central was third.

been raised and is now more visible
to traffic heading east on Conc. 7/8.
Council asked that the police be
consulted regarding the distance
vehicles are to park back from a
stop sign and perhaps inform the
restaurant owners and patrons.

There was also a request for a
new sewage system for the fire hall
as it backs up and freezes in the
winter. An estimate of $2,500 was
obtained.
Numerous pieces of gear and
equipment were on the shopping
list to allow the firefighters to pro-
vide improved service while pro-
tecting themselves better.
The fire department budget will
not be approved or adjusted until
council finalizes their budget.
Dunbar asked Earl and Steiss to
look at ideas for an emergency pre-
paredness plan, after seeing the
result of the ice storm in the east.
Communication links will be a
main concern.

to stand up and tell the club about
the other partner.
Next on the agenda was elections

After the administrative business
was out of the way, it was time for
something fun. They played a type
of "Name that Tool". Twenty-six
objects were laid out on the table,
and were allowed a look at for one
minute. Then, they had to go in the
other room and try to recall as
many of the objects as possible.
Jelma Gorter remembered the
most, with 14 correct observations.
At this point, they went over
ways of making environmentally
friendly cleaners for the house.
Youth leader Sara Speiran
explained one way to fairly divide
up the work in your home so
everyone does their share.
Towards the end of the meeting,
plans of having a yard sale to
benefit the Ethel 4-H club were
talked of. Also, it was decided to
collect pop cans for Huron County
4-H.
