Playing safe
Betty Graber of St. John Ambulance was one of several guest speakers at The Ark last
week for their special safety worshop. Mrs. Graber talked about first aid, while other topics
were car and bike safety, farm equipment safety and safe chemical handling. Other
speakers were Public Health Nurse Marguerite Thomas, Jeff McGavin and Merle Hogey.

On Wednesday, March 11, the
Majestic Women's Institute held its
monthly meeting at the Brussels
Library at 1:30 p.m. There were 12
members and one visitor present.
The meeting was opened by
Vice-President Peggy Keffer
reading a poem entitled "Have I
Changed?" The opening ode was
sung and the Mary Stewart Collect
was recited by all.
Secretary Kathy Bridge read the
minutes of the February meeting.
Jean Bell gave the treasurer's
report. Correspondence was read
and business arising from these was
dealt with. Roll call "What I do to
keep fit" answers ranged from
curling, walking, swimming and
stretch program to eating a
balanced diet.
The meeting was then turned
over to convenors Leona
Armstrong and Marie McCutcheon
who got everyone in the St.
Lodge meets
The regular meeting of Morning
Star Rebekah Lodge #315 Brussels
took place on March 24 with Noble
Grand Sister Lorraine Edwards
presiding.
The United Nations Pilgrimage
for Youth Speak-Off takes place at
Clinton High School on April 3,
8 p.m. The winner wins an all-
expense paid trip to New York and
the United Nations.
On April 3, Morning Star Lodge
members will cater to a dinner for
Past Dist. Dep. Grand Masters in
the Lodge rooms.
April 8 is the meeting of Huron
Dist. #23, to be held at 2 p.m. in the
Exeter Lodge rooms. All past
Noble Grands are invited.
On April 14, Sis. Bernice Ford
Dist. Dep. Pres. of Huron Dist. #23
will pay her official visit to the
Brussels Lodge.
On Monday, March 23 the
Majestic Women's Institute held a
soup and sandwich luncheon.
Later nine tables of euchre were
played with prizes going to the

Ruppel; lone hands, lady, Marie

singing of When Irish Eyes are
Smiling and Wild Irish Rose.
Nelva Scott who is well known
in the community has her stretch
programs at the church as well as
Huronlea. Nelva reinforced that
daily exercise prevents many
conditions including osteoporosis,
depression, strains and obesity. She
also emphasized warming up
before doing exercises and cooling
down after. You can also use tools
such as weights and rubber bands
to make ordinary exercises a little
more challenging.
"If you enjoy it, whatever
exercise is fine as long as you're
active. But, check with your doctor
first, and go at your own pace — if it

Karen Uhler, who is on the
Beautification Committee for the
Huron County International
Plowing Match, Sept. 21 - 25, 199,
explained the eight different classes
in this competition and hoped some
would participate. Pamphlets were
passed out concerning this
competition with the motto "Huron
Shines in '99".
Members were informed of the
spring annual meeting for District 8
to be held in Lucknow Legion

The Brampton Midget "AAA'
hockey club has won the Ontario
Minor Hockey Association
championship, defeating Oshawa,
Central Ontario (Lindsay Region),
Burlington and Niagara Falls.
The final championship game
victory was a 1-0 triple overtime
win over the host team, Niagara
Falls.
Brampton now represents the
OMHA at the All-Ontario
Championships hosted by the
Ottawa Valley Titans in Renfrew,
Ontario during the week of March
30 to April 5. Competing teams
include Kingston, North Bay,
Waterloo, Ottawa Valley, Don
Mills Flyers (representing Toronto)
and Brampton.
The winner of the All-Ontario
Midget "AAA" will represent
Ontario at the Air Canada Canadian
Midget Championships in Sudbury,
