They advance to the contest in Clinton. Second place went to Nicole Mastnak, senior, of Brussels and Lacey McCall, junior, of Grey. Other participants were Brett Hunt, Crystal Dougherty, Jill Johnston, Alyssa Ruttan, Stacey Bowles, Jill Speiran, Crystal McLellan. Brussels PS news Students prepare for concert By Brook Wheeler and Jodi Sellers Again, another exciting week at Brussels Public School! We're all looking forward to having a wonderful March Break. This week in kindergarten they've been doing lots of interesting stuff. Each class has been working on making St. Patrick's Day cards for their parents. Every day they are enjoying playing with their house, blocks and matching games. Grade Is are making fruit and vegetable people on their sand- wiches. That is part of the nutrition unit they started. They also made geometrical zoo animals with construction paper. The Grade 2 class is working on making clay objects. They made 3D cubes and decorated them. Grade 3s are learning new 'times tables' in multiplication. Just like the kindergartens they are making St. Patrick's Day cards. They added surprise snakes that pop out of their cards. Missy Kroll brought in her bunny, Gizmo, to show to the class. The Grade 4 class is doing a play about "Where The Wild Things Arc." In French class they are learning emotions. In math class they are doing 3D shapes. Grade 5 has also been using clay. They made animals with it. They made dice in math class. In French class they've been working on the unit "Clowns" and also emotions. Grade 6/7 has been learning about Shakespearean plays. R.R. 5 Brussels 887-9417 Grade 7/8 is working on a nutrition unit on a new program called Hyper Studio. In math, both grades have been learning flips, slides and turns. Sam and Kyle left for France on Wednesday, March 11. Their exchange students will be coming here on April 7 for two weeks. In French class we are learning strategies for learning French, listening for words that sound like English, using gestures, asking questions and repeating words. We just got through studying irregular verbs. In health we finished a "Changes" unit. On Friday all classes went skating at the Brussels, Morris and Grey arena. Grades 4 to 8 have started floor hockey at noon hour. Also Grades 4-8 started to work on the spring concert that is happening in April. With Osteoporosis a fractured hip could be- a life sentence. The regular meeting of Morning Star Rebekah Lodge No. 315 took place on March 10 with Noble Grand Sister Lorraine Edwards presiding. Plans were finalized for the hot casserole supper and euchre party on March 16 in the Lodge rooms. A committee was formed to plan for the June 9 celebration of Morning Star Lodge's 65th birthday. The UN Pilgrimage for Youth Speak-Off takes place in Clinton on April 3. Brussels People Eleanor Hemingway has just returned from a three-week vaca- tion in Hawaii and Vancouver. She was accompanied by her sons, Don and Ray.
