Organ prelude with Bernice
Gross opened the service at Knox
United on March 8 at 10 a.m. Rev.
Paul Ross welcomed all and gave
the church announcements. Contact
Ruth Armstrong for knitting wool
to make scarves, mitts, toques, etc.
for Children's Aid.
The UCW meeting is to be held
at the church on March 16 at 8 p.m.
Bring Bible.
A church supper is to be at the
church on April 1.
Application forms for Camp
Menesetung and YATS are both
available from Rev. Ross.
The invitation to worship was
read by Rev. Ross and the
congregation from Psalm 27, "God
is our light and salvation". The
opening chorus We are one in the
spirit was sung.
Mrs. Ross went to the front and
with her husband. Rev. Ross gave
the service and extinguished the
second candle of Lent.
The hymn Faith of our Fathers
was sung, followed by prayer.
The children were invited to the
front as the congregation sang
Jesus Loves the Little Children.
The mystery bag produced a
chicken. Rev. Ross asked the
children questions about chickens
and told them the Biblical story of
the hen protecting the chickens
under her wings. God protects his
family as the hen and her family, he
said. They closed with repetitive
prayer.
The hymn My Faith Looks Up to
Thee was sung. Scripture was read
from Genesis 15. God spoke to
Abraham via a dream and told him
that he would not remain childless.
From the New Testament the
reading was from the third and
fourth chapter of Philippians. In
this people were told to be
followers of Christ and to stand fast
in His name.
The second reading was from
Luke 13. Christ was warned to
leave or He would be killed by the
Pharisees. He replied "Blessed is he
that comes in God's name."
The hymn Where Cross the
Crowded Ways of Life followed.
Rev. Ross' sermon was'
"Abandoning Ship". He spoke of
the disaster of the Titanic and said
he is not interested in seeing the
movie. It was a real calamity and
not a movie-like thing.
In the church, too, calamities
happen. People leave for various
reasons. However, the church is the
family of God. It is up to the people
in it to keep it together and for the
congregation to bring the
wandering ship back into the fold
again.
"We are all His people." Rev.
Ross closed with prayer followed
by the Lord's Prayer in unison.
Offering was received.
The closing hymn was a song of
faith, Lead on, 0 King Eternal.
Woman recovers
in Clinton hosp.
We are pleased to learn that Mrs.
R. Peck has returned to Clinton
Hospital from London. Continue to
improve, June.
The community was sorry to hear
of the recent death of Robert
Powell. Sympathy is extended to
his family. Lunch was served by
the UCW after the funeral service.
Ila Cunningham was surprised by
a celebration held by her family
recently in honour of a special
birthday.
The community enjoyed a
pancake breakfast served by the
Auburn. Lions Sunday morning.
