Johnston hosts UCW The Evening Unit of Knox UCW, Belgrave met Tuesday, March 3 at the home of Ruth Johnston with 13 members answering the roll call call by naming a sea mentioned in the Bible. Leader Muriel Coultes welcomed everyone. She read a poem of Lent, "Two Mothers'". The group heard three speeches prepared by students of EWPS. Chris Cottrill spoke of "Excuses", Amy Cook told of Princess Diana and Shawn Cottrill chose education for his topic. They were thanked and presented with a gift. Donna Shaw conducted the worship. Jesus Stand Among Us was sung. Muriel Coultes read the scripture story of Zaccheus. The meditation reminded Jesus The Belgrave Girl Guides and Pathfinders enjoyed a weekend of camping at the Wawanosh Nature Centre this past week. Saturday under clear skies the girls enjoyed an orienteering/compass exercise, games and feeding the birds, organized by Esther Buck, staff member of the Nature Centre. Pathfinders prepared a Chinese supper and entertained the Guides with mock first aid skits. The Guides led the evening campfire. The day ended as girls spent their last night in tents. - Pathfinders attended and participated in a martial arts class last Wednesday evening at the East Wawanosh Public School. Under Euchre winners There were 10 tables of euchre in play on Wednesday, March 4 at the Women's Institute Hall. Prizes were given to high lady, Lillian Appleby; second high lady, Edith Coultes; lone hands, Laura Johnston; low lady, Olive Bolt; high man, Alice Nicholson; second high man, Jane Grasby; lone hands, Gordon Bosman; low man, Allen Edgar. She read two stories written by two families who wish to immigrate to Canada because of hardships. The third letter was from a family who have already come to Canada. Irene Lamont and Lois Anderson served lunch. the direction of "Sifu" the class did warmup exercises and were then taught kicks and moves used in martial arts. Sifu (Jim Keller) and his class were thanked for their time and patience. Freda Johnston welcomed worshippers to Knox United Church on Sunday, March 8 the "Second Sunday in Lent." Rev. Mary Jane Hobden welcomed everyone prior to the singing of Teach Me God to Wonder and / Am the Light of the World for songtime. Silent meditation, call to worship read responsively was followed by Prayer of Approach and the Prayer of Confession in unison. My Faith Looks Up to Thee, Where Cross the Crowded Ways and Who's Taking Gordon and Louise Bosman have returned home from a most enjoyable holiday in La Jolla, a suburb of San Diega, CA. They visited many local attractions such as San Diego Zoo, Wild Life Park, Camp Pendelton and Balboa Park. They enjoyed a musical comedy at Lawrence Welk's Resort Centre and the museum at Escondido. The Belgrave Community Club held their regular meeting on Friday, March 6 in the club room with 14 members present. President Lorne Campbell welcomed the members. 0 Canada was sung accompanied by Freda Care of Your World were selected hymns. The senior mixed choir sang For the Joy of Music, accompanied by Elizabeth Procter on the piano. The Old Testament reading was from Genesis 15: 1-12 and 17-18 and the gospel reading was taken from Luke 14: 31-35. The children gathered in the front pew for story time. It centred on "birds". Lorne reported the arena board had given its approval to hang the new USCO flag in the club room. The care of the arena flower beds was discussed. Mabel Wheeler reminded the group about the senior games being held at Mitchell June 15 and 16. Preparations were discussed in preparation for the April meeting when Blyth seniors will be the guests. Each member Is requested to bring a prize to the value of $2. It was decided to contribute $100 to the fair board. The members agreed to host a monthly birthday party for the residents of Huronlea on a date to be set by the Huronlea committee. Omission In last week's paper Betty Kelly, RR 2, Blyth should have been included as a guest at Beth Procter's birthday party. "Hobden said, "We are always under God's sheltering wings." God's children are protected like a mother hen who wants to gather her chicks under her wings. The children adjourned for Sunday School. Sandra Dorsch and Amy Barnes were in charge of nursery. • The sermon was based on "Our Faith Overcoming Our Doubts". Ken Procter and Don Procter took up the offering. On Sunday, March 15 the junior choir will be singing. Lunch will follow the service. Frieburger, Melinda Dorsch and Jeanine's brothers Jordan and Jesse. A fun time was had by all.
