The most improved junior skater was Laura Bcnjamins whose trophy was donated by Howson and Howson Ltd.. Power skater was Orie Falconer. The trophy was donated by G. L. Hubbard Ltd. Intermediate skater was Jenna Rinn whose trophy was donated by Radford Construction. Senior skater, Michelle Cook received a trophy donated by Sparling's Propane. Ernie Phillips donated the engraving on the trophies. Sr. hockey playoffs con't The WOAA Senior Hockey playoffs have reached the second round with one major upset to date. The Goderich Pirates won three of four games played in Lucknow to eliminate the first place Lancers in seven games. Goderich will now meet Clinton, who swept Mildmay in four straight games, for the Senior A West Division title. In the East Division, Shelburne and Wiarton advanced to the finals with six game series wins over Arthur and Palmerston, respectively. In Senior AA, Wellesley eliminated Elora to advance to the semi-finals against Durham. Currently tied at one game apiece, Wellesley is playing the series Belgrave Jrs. short-staffed after the loss of four players due to residence eligibility. Milverton leads Tavistock 2-1 in the other semi-final series with home ice being a major factor. The Milverton ice surface is 186' x 76' while the new Tavistock arena is NHL regulation 200' x 85'. The first 10 minutes of the game looked like a repeat of last Sunday's 3-2 overtime loss. Thedford was enjoying a 2-1 lead with two seconds remaining in the period when they caught Brussels off-guard and ended the period with a two-goal advantage. Brussels' goal was scored by Chris Stewart, with assists to Brian Marks and Chad Haggitt. In the second period Thedford Ten tables of euchre were in play at the euchre party in Cranbrook last Friday. Winners were: high lady, Iola Subject; high man, Adrian Verstoep; low lady, Kathleen Whaley; low man, Velma Sleightholm; most lone hands, lady, Iona McLean; most lone hands, man, Lloyd Smith; had four unanswered goals. In the third period Brussels was held scoreless as Thedford notched three more goals for a convincing 10-1 victory. Brussels Juveniles appreciate the fans for their loyal support at this game and also the support this past season. Thedford will now advance to meet Norwood in the OMHA finals. The Brussels Juveniles wish them the best. Give the Midgets credit for keeping their composure throughout the series and also for raising their game to another level in the final two games when Walpole Island finally decided to play hockey. When needed, the Bulldogs proved to be the better team and deserved the honour of advancing to the OMHA Championship series by winning the series. Blyth's opponents in the finals will be the winner between Beaver Valley and Sunderland. Their series is currently tied at 2-2 with the deciding game this coming weekend. It was great to see another big crowd out to offer support." This is an exciting time for Blyth Minor Hockey. The Midgets have advanced to the finals while the Bantams face Walpole Island in OMHA semi-finals and the PeeWees square off against Bothwell, also in OMHA semi- finals. Catch all the action as three Bulldogs teams continue their quest for an All Ontario championship zone. Walpole tied the game 1-1 with a shorthanded goal midway through the second stanza. With two minutes and 40 seconds left in the first the Bulldogs regained the lead while enjoying a powerplay advantage. Gerrits earned his second assist of the game as he teamed up with Mike Courtney, who found the back of the net. The Bulldogs couldn't hold the lead however as the visitors tied the game with just over one minute left in the period on a partial breakaway blast. Blyth played one of their best periods of hockey in the series during the third as they realized how close they were to advancing to the championship finals. Their persistence finally paid off with four and a half minutes left in the game. Steve Oldfield and Chris Carter did the legwork and Darryl Bromley provided the heroics as he skated in front of the Walpole Island goal and slipped the puck through the goalie's legs. Blyth kept the pressure on as the clock wound down and the game was finally decided when Haggitt notched an empty net goal with only nine seconds remaining,
