Drama students put on a show in Blyth
Top marks
Kelly Alexander, left, was the recipient of a Sears Drama
Festival Award of Excellence for her portrayal of Flora
Meighan in F.E. Madill Drama Guild's performance of
Tennessee Williams' 27 Wagons Full of Cotton. Also
appearing in the production were Paul Vaudry and Mark
Weir. Alexander and Caley Moore were co-ordinators of
this year's Festival, hosted by Madill and held at Blyth
Memorial Hall Moore was assistant stage manager on
the Guild's other performance 7 Stories.
Off to Barrie
The hard work paid off for members of Central Huron Secondary School's drama group. In
addition to several awards and certificates at the Sears Drama Festival the production
Bombs was selected as the winner of the four-day competition, which was hosted by F.E.
Madill Secondary School and held in Blyth last week. CHSS drama members are, back row,
from left: Sarah Van Sligtenhorst, Robin Wong, Daryle Henry (Certificate of Merit for Acting),
Erin Roulston (Award of Excellence for directing), Brianna Brown, Katrina Wong, Ross
Clark, Jen Kuntz, Nathan Sherred. Front: Mark Nonkes, Tammy Walker, Cappy Onn (Award
of Excellence for Directing), Zoey Onn, Dawn Fitzgerald, Kate Johnston, Mike Mullin
(Certificate of Merit for Acting). Not pictured: Gwendolyn Young, Valerie Laurie (Certificate
of Merit for Acting), Gina Lobb, Michele Hirsig, Rachel Bokhout (Certificate of Merit for

Stratford Central's Shapes in the Smoke and Elmira's The Women of Troy.
Working together
The actors of F.E. Madill Secondary School's 7 Stories received an award of excellence for
their ensemble work at the annual Sears Festival this past week. Back row, from left:
Nathaniel Bakkelaar, Mike McDonald, Virginia Schenk, Karen Prentice, Ashley Gropp. Front:
Christine Wilbee, who was also assistant director, Mrs. Brewster, director, Allison Hackett,
Jay Sanders, William Kugler. Absent: Lisa Linardatos, Matt Campbell and Marcus Keil.
Teacher Luanna Alexander said that because of the demand to see the schools
performances, both Madill productions (the second was 27 Wagons Full of Cotton) will be
presented this Friday night in Blyth at 7 p.m., along with Central Huron Secondary School's
award winning Bombs. Admission to see the three shows is $10. Part of the money will go
to offset expenses for CHSS's trip to Barrie for the Regional Festival competition.
