Students prepare for French exchange
WHAT'S HAPPENING IN
"FRANCAIS"!
By Katelyn Linner
Jackie Falconer and Kristen
Oster will be participating in a two-
week exchange trip to France
during the March Break. There will
be a group of approximately 40
students from Huron County going
on the trip. They will live with a
family from France, visit Paris and
of course practise their French.
In April their twin will come to
Canada to visit for two weeks and
participate in various activities and
trips.
In other French topics with Mrs.
Drennan, the Grade 4/5 students
have just completed a unit in
French on healthy living. They are
now starting to study "Le monde
sous-marin". They will also be
publishing booklets about
underwater life and present them to
"CANADA" was the enthusiastic
reply when the students of East
Wawanosh Public School were
asked what the best country in the
world was at the concluding
assembly this past Friday afternoon
for their ''Celebrate Canada" week.
Activities for the week included a
visit from Huron-Bruce M.P. Mr.
Paul Steckle on Monday, Feb. 16,
Heritage Day. After speaking to
groups of students, he was the
guest of honour at a special
assembly at which two choirs sang
and the Grade 1 class read an
experience chart about Canada with
their teacher, Miss Mathers.
Three students, Jenni Hopf, Kerri
Meier and Sherri Ross, led a
Promise to Canada which they had
authored. "I promise to love and
the class. That is what's happening
in "Francais".
PIZZA HERE, PIZZA THERE,
PIZZA PIZZA EVERYWHERE!
By Katelyn Linner
Oldest and only students have
had the opportunity to take home
pizza coupons from New Orleans
Pizza. A $10 donation allows you
to get a two for one deal and you
will receive a third pizza of equal
or lesser value. These cards can be
used every day but a limit of once a
day. The best part is that all those
hungry tummies will be filled and
all of the money generated by the
purchase of the pizza coupons goes
to the benefit of the students. What
a deal!
SPEECH CRAZY
By Heather Anne Elliott
"Mommy, my throat hurts!"
"Just three minutes and 56
seconds, that's how long you have
respect others as I would want to be
loved and respected myself. I
promise to be faithful to Canada
and to follow its laws and duties."
The assembly was concluded
with the singing of 0 Canada using
the miniflags given to the students
by Mr. Steckle. Grade 6/7 sang the
second and third verses of the
national anthem.
Tuesday brought red and white
spirit day and a talk on the
Canadian flag by school volunteer,
Bert Morin. A challenging Mini-
Olympics was run indoors by the
Students' Council on Wednesday
afternoon with such activities as
hockey, curling, moguls, cross-
country skiing, biathlon,
bobsledding, speed skating, banner
making and intemet connections to
the Olympics websites.

because you didn't make it to the
gym, just remember everyone here
at Blyth is a WINNER!
BOUNCE, BOUNCE, BOUNCE!
By Alicia Marshall
and John Battye
That's the sound that has been
coming from our gymnasium
during the past two weeks! We're
talking basketball, basketball and
more basketball! It has been a great
way for the Grade 6, 7 and 8
students to beat the winter blues!
The Utah Jazz team placed first
in the competition. Other teams
competing were the Chicago Bulls,
the L.A. Lakers and the Indiana
Pacers.
Grades 3, 4 and 5 students have
started to play houseleague
newcomball. The teams taking part
are the London Knights, the
Hershey Bears, the Guelph Storms
and the Hull Olympiques.
We hope that the newcomball
will be just as successful as the
basketball.
WHAT'S UP HUSK
By Michelle Cook
Kindergarten A was surprised
one morning to walk into their
classroom and see a BRAND NEW
FACE! The face belonged to
Aislinn Jardine from Brussels, who
now is attending our school.
The class has been learning how
to keep healthy by being taught
"Canada's Food Guide."
LISTEN UP! Kindergarten
students are learning their sounds
and finger motions to match. If you
run across a kindergarten student
just ask them to say a sound and
you might just hear them say, "P!
or Ch! or Mmm!"
