JOHN HUGH MCEWING
John Hugh McEwing, of
Seaforth, formerly of Hullett Twp,
passed away peacefully, Feb. 17, at
Seaforth Community Hospital, sur-
rounded by his family. He was 80.
Not only was Mr. McEwing a
loving husband and father, he had
been actively involved in his
church and community.
He served as Sunday School
superintendent, church elder and on
boards of Burn's United Church,
Hullett Twp., Duffs United
Church, Walton and was a member
of Northside United Church,
Seaforth.
Mr. McEwing was a director of
McKillop Mutual Insurance Com-
pany for 43 years and a member of
the Seaforth Community Hospital
board for 11 years.
He was the dearly beloved hus-
band of 59 years of Janie E.
Bernard, loved father of Beth Read,
Seaforth, Marjorie and Howard
Cartwright, RR1, Londesboro,
Noreen and Herman Lefler, RR5,
Waterford, Alex and Sharon
MacEwing, •Maryhill and Karen
and John McConnell, London, and
the loving grandfather of 11 grand-
children and six great-grandchil-
dren.
Mr. McEwing was the dear
brother and brother-in-law of Helen
and William Pepper, Brucefield,
James and Gloria McEwing, Lon-
desboro, Howard and Joan Bernard,
Brussels, Mary East and Lillian
Bernard, Clinton and Margaret
Bernard, Brussels.
He was predeceased by his par-
ents, Alex and Susan (Campbell)
McEwing, his sister, Marjorie
Lloyd and brothers-in-law, Norman
Lloyd, Thomas and George
Bernard and Harold East. He is sur-
vived by many nieces and nephews.
Friends were received at Whit-
ney-Ribey Funeral Home, Seaforth,
on Thursday. The service was held
Friday, Feb. 20., at Northside Unit-
ed Church, Seaforth.
Rev. Jane Kuepfer and Elly Van
Bergen officiated.
Pallbearers were Ryan Mac-
Ewing, Neil Cartwright, Murray
Hall, Donald McKercher, Lavern
Godkin and Melvin Knox.
Flowerbearers were Patrick
McConnell, Kristie MacEwing,
Carol Munnings, Tracy Read,
Cheryl Pardis and Laura Benson.
Members of the McKillop Mutu-
al Insurance Company formed an
honour guard.
The piper was Gwen Fisher,
soloist was Graeme Craig and
organist was Carol LeBeau.
Spring interment will be at Mait-
land Bank Cemetery, Seaforth.
Donations to Seaforth Communi-
ty Hospital or Northside United
Church would be appreciated by
the family.
EVELYN "SMITTY" SMITH
Evelyn Smith, 90, of Listowel,
died Wednesday, Feb. 18, 1998 at
Listowel Memorial Hospital.
Born Sept. 12, 1907 in London,
Eng. she was a daughter of the late
Charles Harris and the former Nina
Lottie Love. She was predeceased
by husbands Robert Johnson Milne
and Layton Ayres Smith.

Surviving are her children Jack
and Eleanor Milne of Richmond,
B.C., Elikood and Joyce Milne of

Smith, all of Monkton, Kenneth
and Deborah Smith of Chatham,
and Orma and Bill MacKay of
London, 17 grandchildren, 18
great-grandchildren and one great-
great-grandchild and her dear
tnend Mabel Williams.
Besides her husbands and
parents, she was predeceased by a
son; a great-great-grandson; a
great-great-granddaughter and a
brother Frank Harris.
Friends and relatives were
received Friday from 2 - 4 p.m. and
7 - 9 p.m. at Peebles Funeral Home,
141 John St., Atwood, where
funeral services were held Saturday
at 2 p.m. Rev. Makey, Kurtzville,
officiated.
Honorary Pallbearers were Mabel
Williams, Lloyd Smith and George
Smith.
Pallbearers were Larry Smith,
Spencer Broome, Terry MacKay,
Jerry, Troy and Andy Smith.
Flower bearers were Shannon
Schweitzer, Juanita, Shelly, Krista,
Sarah and Tony Smith and Joy
Strueby.
Burial will be in Mt. Pleasant
Cemetery, Ethel.
ELSIE CUNNINGHAM
Elsie Irene Cunningham, 103,
died Thursday, Feb. 19, 1998 at
Huronlea, Brussels.
She was predeceased by her
husband Hugh Roy Cunningham in
1933.
Surviving are a son Ross and
wife Anna of Brussels, Robert and
wife Olive of Ethel, Estelle Fritz of
Waterloo; a son-in-law Kenneth
Macdonald and wife Margaret of
Atwood; three grandchildren and
four great-grandchildren.
Besides her husband, she was
predeceased by a daughter Doris
MacDonald; a son-in-law Stanley
Fritz; a sister Stella Brown and
brothers Garfield, Stanley, George,
Clifford, Roy and Lloyd Dunbar.
Friends and relatives were
received Saturday from 3 - 5 p.m.
and 7 - 9 p.m. at the Peebles
Funeral Home, 141 John St.,
Atwood, where funeral services
were held Sunday at 2 p.m.
Rev. Cathrine Campbell
officiated.
Flower bearers were Eleanor
Fritz and Ann Uhler.
Pallbearers were Bob Alexander,
Bob Bremner, Donald Dunbar, Ken
MacDonald, Rick Cunningham and
Fred Uhler.
Burial will be in Mt. Pleasant
Mausoleum, Ethel.
BARBARA ANNE COULTES
Barbara Anne Coultes of Toron-
to, passed away at Women's Col-
lege Hospital, Toronto, Saturday,
Feb. 21, 1998, at the age of 56.
Ms Coultes, born in Wingham,
was the beloved daughter of Janisa
(Homuth) Coultes of Belgrave. She
was predeceased by her father,
Cecil T. Coultes, in 1972.
She was a graduate of Ryerson
Polytechnical Institute, Toronto
Radio Television Arts program.
Following graduation she worked
for CFRB Radio, Toronto, and did
post-graduate studies at York Uni-
versity, receiving her B.A. in com-
munications.
Ms Coultes worked for the
Addiction Research Foundation,
Toronto, and was instrumental in
forming the first RIDE program
prior to owning her own public
relations consulting, firm.
Visitation was held on Monday at
McBurney Funeral Home, Wing-
ham. Rev. Mary-Jane Hobden offi-
ciated at the Feb. 24 service.
Flower bearers were Jennifer
Hatheway and Lynda Lewis, hon-
orary bearers were Harold Vincent
and Murray Hastings and pallbear-
ers were Walter Armes, Murray
Coultes, Allan, Don and Dave
Bosman and Fred Angus.
Interment was at Wingham
Cemetery, Turnberry Twp.
Memorial donations to the chari-
ty of one's choice would be appre-
ciated as expressions of sympathy.
PAILLE-ANDERSON
Couple resides in Guelph
On Saturday, Nov. 15, 1997, Jane
Anderson and Stephan Paille were united in
marriage at Dublin Street United Church,
Guelph. Rev. Doug Norris officiated at this
joyous occasion.
The bride is the daughter of Eric and
Marjorie Anderson of Londesboro and the
groom is the son of Francine and Marc Paille
of Burlington.
The maid of honour was Angela
Horbanuik and the bridesmaid was Amanda
Anderson, both nieces of the bride.
The best man was Lance Sosnowich and
the groomsman was Chris McLister, both
friends of the groom. Drew, the son of the
bride, ushered the mothers and helped light
candles and later took part in the service.
The Pailles now reside in-Guelph.
