Jay Sanders of East Wawanosh and Christine Wilbee of Brussels act out a scene from the
F.E. Madill Drama Guild's production of Seven Stories, a comedy which takes place through
the windows of a building. The play is one of two being presented at this year's Sears
Festival, hosted by the school this year in Blyth. The second play is a drama by Tennessee
Williams.
Chislett to adjudicate at Sears
The Sears Drama Festival, a
showcase of talent from high
schools in Huron, Perth and North
Waterloo, has two very well-known
and talented Canadians as the
adjudicators.
Anne Chislett is one of the
original founders of the Blyth
Festival, and is currently the
Festival's artistic director. She is
also a well-known playwright
whose work has been produced in
every province in Canada, as well
as the United States and Japan.
Huron Tourism Association and
Huron Federation of Agriculture
have formed an alliance with The
Agriculture Adaptation Council
(Canadapt) for a marketing
initiative to create and promote the
new agri-tourism packages. A
Canadapt grant of $64,000 has been
matched by these partners and with
contributions from the County of
Huron, Huron Business
Development Corporation,
International Plowing Match
Committee, Zurich Chamber of
Commerce and Hensall Economic
Development Committee.
Four immediate priorities have
been identified for the program:
1) Create Farm Gate Tours
packaged as the ''Huron Harvest
Trail"
2) Stimulate people to enter into
the Bed & Breakfast industry by
providing introductory and
advanced seminars
Her play, Quiet in the Land, won
the 1983 Governor General's
Award, as well as the 1982
Chalmers' Canadian Play Award.
This play was also performed at
Blyth this past summer.
She again won the 1996
Chalmers' Award for Flippin' In, a
play for high schools about
teenagers attempting to form a
union in the fast food industry.
K. Reed Needles has worked in
professional theatre since first
appearing at the Stratford Festival
3) Develop innovative agri-tours
to be marketed to group tour
operators in Canada, United States
and Europe.
4) Develop a "Huron
Ambassador" campaign to
educate the County's agricultural
and tourism partners on the many
benefits that Huron has to offer, in
addition to offering ongoing
training and information to
improve customer service.
The project is seeking interested
businesses, farm gate operations
and venues who want to participate
in the upcoming programs. "We
have an excellent inventory of
facilities and services that are
available in the area, however, we
certainly don't want to miss
anything of interest that could be
beneficial to our efforts", Bayley
reports.

program, contact Cass Bayley at

in 1964. Since then he has been
involved in over 450 productions as
a performer, director, stage
manager and fight choreographer.
He also taught in the theatre
departments of the University of
Toronto and Ryerson University.
One of his most famous roles
was playing the original Walt
Wingfield in a highly successful
Letters From Wingfield Farm.
He has worked extensively as a
fight choreographer and fight
instructor, and conducts workshops
and lectures in medieval theatre
and fight direction.
Needles has been adjudicating
for the Sears Drama Festivals since
1980, following a tradition
established by his father, Stratford
actor, William Needles.
The Sears Drama Festival takes
place at the Blyth Centre for the
Performing Arts on Wednesday,
Feb. 18 - Saturday, Feb. 21. There
are four plays nightly.

If visitors totals for past shows
are benchmarks, Huron County's
International Plowing Match and
Farms Machinery Show (IPM)
organizers know accommodation
will be at a premium in 1999.
In preparation for the 1999 event,
to be held near Dashwood, Huron
IPM volunteers are publishing a
special brochure this year listing
accommodations.
Available in the Counties of
Huron and Lambton, the
publication is strictly for IPM
accommodations and separate from
the Huron County Travel Guide,
published annually by the county's
planning and development depart-
ment.
IPM chairman Graeme Craig
superstitiously refuses to estimate
how many visitors will converge on
the Dashwood-area farm of Earl
and Linda Becker in September
1999.
Accommodations Committee
Chairman Arnold Mathers of
Exeter is collecting registrations for
the brochure until March 1 from
individuals offering space in area
hotels, motels, bed and breakfasts,
campgrounds, cottages and private
homes. A small registration fee is
requested.
To be included in the Huron
County IPM accommodations
brochure, send name, address,
telephone number and cheque for
$5 registration fee (payable to IPM
Huron) to Arnold Mathers (Accom-
modations Committee) at 112
Andrew St., Exeter, NOM 1S1.
Deadline is March 1. After this
date, the accommodations commit-
tee will telephone registrants to
gather more information.
Momento of large event
Souvenirs for the 1999
International Plowing Match and
Farm Machinery Show are
available for sale at the Huron
County Museum.
Advance purchase of these
souvenirs will guarantee you'll
have a moment() to remember the
largest event to hit Huton County
in decades. From the $4 lapel pin to
the $60 zippered sweatshirt, county
residents can wear or display
souvenirs bearing the IPM logo in
the months prior to the event.
The colourful logo is
embroidered on the zippered
sweatshirt, golf shirts, forest green
sweatshirt, Non-Fiction t-shirt and
caps and then printed on the lower
priced t-shirt, sweatshirt, apron,
mesh and cotton caps and lapel
pins. There are also two sizes of
suncatchers and spoons.
Keep the "physical"
in education!
Research confirms that children who
participate in daily physical education
are more fit, have better health habits,
are less susceptible to stress, and
perform better academically.
