Priceless smile
Brusselite Lillian Moses's smile wasn't worth quite a
million dollars though her lottery winnings certainly added
a gleam to her eye. Moses, 66, who regularly buys tickets
with her mother, won $151,880 in the Feb. 11, Lotto 649
draw. Instead of playing her usual numbers as she had
for years, Moses randomly picked from the game card.
She and her husband, Bill, who have two children and
four grandchildren, plan to invest the money and enjoy a
trip to the east coast which they had booked just two
weeks before the win.
Sheepish knitters visit Spinrite
On the evening of Feb. 9 the
Brussels Sheepish Knitters met in
Listowel to go on a tour of the
Spinrite factory. Mr. Meadows
was tour guide for the evening.
The first stop in the plant was to
see raw materials used. Whether
synthetic or natural fibre, the fibres
are generally received from the
supplier in bales weighing roughly
500 lbs. They are tightly
compressed, so as to reduce
volume.

Sauve led in the singing of grace.
The diners enjoyed a delicious
roast beef dinner.
The door prize winner was Bill
Clark. The 50/50 draw was won

A modern version of the Little
Red Hen was read by Ruth Sauve,
who even had a chicken alarm

and learned this is the first
operation in producing a worsted
yarn. The tangled mass of fibres
are converted into a heavy rope-
like strand called a sliver.
The next couple of things they
saw were the grillingor pindrafting,
roving, spinning, and twisting.
They were unable to see reeling
and dyeing because of safety
issues. They also saw balling,
banding and packaging.
The club found this information
to be useful, interesting and it will
be a reminder of the pleasant tour
they had of Spinrite. They received
a gift bag with yarn and some
patterns in it.
