Brussels Juveniles played host to
Lions Head on Saturday, Feb. 7 in
the first game in a best of five
series. This was the first time this
season that the team had a full
roster.
Brussels had a two-goal lead
after one period with Jason
Gemmel! and Mark Wilson
scoring. Assists went to Chad
McCallum and Tim Strickert.
Lions Head replied with a goal in
the second.
In the third period Brussels
scored three unanswered goals.
Christ Stewart was assisted by
Greg Toll and Wilson scored his
second of the game, assisted by
Toll. Brian Marks finished the
scoring with one minute remaining
assisted by Matt Shortreed and
Mike Dauphin to give Brussels a 5-
1 victory.
Jory Elliott did an excellent job
between the pipes allowing Lions
Head only one goal on numerous
good scoring opportunites.
On Sunday, Brussels travelled to
Lions Head for game two and
returned home with a 7-4 victory.

The Blyth Midget Bulldogs
played a single exhibition game last
week as they shaded the Goderich
Sailors 6-4 by staging a three-goal
third period comeback at home on
Feb. 2.
Cory Bragg opened the game
scoring 28 seconds after the
opening faceoff from a fine setup
by Corey Campbell and Mike
Courtney.
Team play went south after that
as Blyth's final five goals were all
unassisted. Mike Ansley gave
Blyth a 2-0 lead midway through
the first as the Bulldogs escaped
with a 2-1 lead through the first
frame.
Goderich led 4-3 after two as
they outscored their hosts 3-1 in the
second with Ansley notching his
second goal of the game for the
Bulldogs.
Although Blyth played an
uninspired contest they again had
enough enthusiasm to pull out the
victory, scoring three unanswered
third-period goals. Campbell tied
the game 4-4 two minutes in before
Courtney drilled the winner with
seven minutes left as Blyth was
enjoying a power play.

none. Blyth won the first three
games in the series, 14-4, 7-1, 11-3.
The fourth game was played in
Blyth on Saturday afternoon. The
Normanby team came up with a
real gritty performance and gave
Blyth everything they could handle.

Lions Head tied the game with 20
seconds left in the first.
- In the second, Brussels added
three more and Lions Head replied
with two. McCallum was assisted
by Randy Beuermann and
Gemmell. Two minutes later Marks
added another. McCallum scored
his second goal 40 seconds later
assisted by Gemmel! and
Beuermann.
In the third period Brussels
roared back with three more as
Lions Head replied with one. Mark
Fischer was fed a pass in the slot
for his first goal assisted by Marks
and Tim Strickert.

Stewart. Brussels finished the
scoring on an unassisted goal by
Gemmel!.
The fans who travelled to Lions
Head were treated to a hard-hitting,
fast-paced game.

added an insurance goal in the final
minute. With the Bulldogs playing
shorthanded, defenceman Ansley
got the coaches' attention by
making yet another patented rush
into enemy territory and fired his
hat trick goal with only 43 seconds
remaining in the game.
It was obvious from this game
that the Midgets still have much to
learn if they are to be successful in
the playoffs. Playoffs could come
sooner than expected as the
Bulldogs await the winner of the
Walpole Island-Alvinston series,
which could be decided this week.
The Midget Bulldogs will be
showcasing their culinary skills this
Sunday February 15 as they host
their Sweetheart Valentine's
Pancake Breakfast at the Blyth
Memorial Hall. The hearty
breakfasts, complete with
pancakes, will be served from 9
a.m. to 1 p.m.
All proceeds from this flapjack
feeding frenzy will help offset the
Bulldog Players' expenses to the
Canadian Cup tournament in
Montreal from April 2-5.
Also on display at the breakfast
will be several pieces of
memorabilia that the team is
collecting to eventually auction
and/or sell tickets on at their
upcoming benefit hockey game.
Details are being finalized this
week for a game that will pit the
Blyth Minor Hockey coaches
against an as yet unnamed team.

Trailing the best of seven series
2-0, the Brussels Bulls headed into
Kincardine on Friday night to play
the Bulldogs. The Bulls carried the
play in the first period. But Brent
McDermid, the Western Jr. C
rookie of the year, caught them
snoozing, scoring twice in 14
seconds with under two minutes to
go in the period.
In the second period Josh
Cressman, assisted by Darryl
DeRuyter and Rob Knechtel got the
Bulls to within one, but that's all
the offense the Bulls could muster
and went home with a 7-1 loss.
Sunday, with a good home crowd
behind them, the team was able to
put in a solid effort. Kincardine
scored first and took a 1-0 lead into
the intermission.
The Bulldogs increased their lead
to 2-0, but with 5:37 left in the
second period on the power play
Dan Williams scored assisted by
Gary Staples and Curtis Nichol.
The Bulls got the equalizer three
minutes later on the power play
again when Nichol deflected a shot
assisted by Staples and Cressman.
The score remained 2-2 until
12:26 of the third when, on the
power play, Kincardine scored to
take the lead. Kincardine scored
twice more with the fifth goal
going to an empty net as the Bulls
pulled goalie Dan Balog in favour
of an extra attacker.
The Bulls played well in their
final game this year and would like
to thank all the fans who came out
this year and supported them.
Kincardine now advances to the
League final. Wingham was
defeated in four games by Mount
Forest who will play the Hanover
Barons who defeated Walkerton in
five games.
The winner of Mount Forest and
Hanover will advance to a best of
seven final against Kincardine.
