About 30 attended and all enjoyed a lovely meal. Following the dinner president Lawrence Plaetzer called the meeting to order. 0 Canada was sung accompanied by pianist Phyllis Boak. A sing-a-long followed led by Vera Badley and Hary McDowell. Happy birthday was sung to Isabelle Craig and Happy anniversary was sung to Jim and Erma Mason. June McDowell introduced the guest speaker, Ann Brabender who is program and social services co- ordinator for Huronlea and Huronview. She gave an interest- ing talk on her work at the two facilities. She said there are 62 beds for long-term residents as well as residents living in the apartments. These are under two different managements. She told about the new Auxiliary which has been formed for Huronlea with Leona Armstrong as president. One of the first things they did was donate the club cards to the people in the apartments which entitles them to attend any of the volunteer programs for the residents unless it was a dinner, in which case they would pay for that. Many programs are planned for the residents, including church services on Sunday, birthday parties each month, crafts and baking, fun and fitness. Steve Cook of Blyth is active in this along with his helpers. She also said volunteers are always welcome and can do many little duties for the residents like writing letters, reading to them or even taking them for a little drive. A question and answer period followed. Ferne McDowell and Lawrence Plaetzer thanked Ms. Brabender for attending. Two humorous readings followed, "The Snoring Husband" and "Using a Bank Card". The minutes were readpy the secretary. An invitation to Huronleas's monthly Birthday Party was received Feb. 10. A committee was put in to see about program and several offered to bring lunch. 61or sour Sweethea;\ V Sugar & Spice Chocolates Candies 3 Cherished Teddies 3 Collector Plates 3 Prints Open Tuesday - Saturday Carol's Candies & Collectables Queen St., Blyth 519-523-4700 1 THE CITIZEN, WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 11, 1998.
