The location of your neighbours
house may be the most critical fac-
tor in limiting location of a new
hog operation in southwestern
Ontario, according to a study by
Ken McEwen and Luanne Marc-
hand of Ridgetown College.
Speaking to the annual meeting
of Huron County Pork Producers in
Varna, on Thursday, McEwen said
the study included zoning bylaws
from 177 townships from Windsor
to Barrie, looking at restrictions on
three types of barns: a 1,000-head
feeder barn, a 100-head farrow-to-
finish operation and a 600-sow far-
row-to-wean barn.
The study found there was little
difference in the restrictiveness
between the three types of'bams.

to the location of neighbouring

The sales at Brussels Livestock
for the week ending Jan. 23 were:
fed cattle, 639; cows, 380; veal and
bob calves, 403; lambs and goats,
169; and stockers, 1,200.
Fed steers and heifers are selling
$2 higher. Cows sold $1 to $2
higher. Veal sold $2 to $3 lower
with lambs trading on a lower
market. All classes of stockers sold
steady.

selling from $89 to $98 to the high
