E ntertainment 4-H knitters name club Pinery hosts winter day event Many people enjoy the marvelous sights and sounds of Pinery Park during the summer season and some of these people know that Pinery Park is a fantastic place to be in the winter. The Friends of Pinery Park would like more people to know that Pinery Park is alive and exciting through all four seasons, so they invite them to experience the wonders of winter in Pinery Park at The Friends of Pinery Park Winter Day Event, on Saturday, Jan. 31. Meteorologist, Jay Campbell from CFPL, will begin the day with a presentation on the El Nino weather phenomenon at 1 p.m. in the Visitor Theatre. Campbell will explain what El Nino is and how the current one will impact on Pinery Park. At 2 p.m., in the Visitor Centre Theatre, Kathy Kerr, one of Pinery Park's naturalists, will lead a 45- minute slide show about our winter birds. After his slide talk, Purdy will conduct an "Owl Prowl" to listen for the calls of nesting Great Horned Owls in the park. One of his talents is his ability to sound like an owl and participants in the "Owl Prowl" are likely to hear and see some of the park's owl inhabitants. Snowmobilers ride for funds "Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow," is the refrain of snowmobilers across the South Western Ontario Region as they prepare for Snowarama '98. Now in its 24th year, Snowarama events take place throughout Ontario to raise funds in support of Easter Seal kids and their families. The South Western Ontario Region will kick off their Snowarama events in Wingham on Feb. 1, and will continue with a second event in Strathroy on Feb. 14. Since 1975, Snowarama events have raised over $13 million for the Easter Seal Society, Ontario. Each event is co-ordinated in conjunction with the Ontario Federation of Snowmobile Clubs (OFSC) and local Easter Seal service club partners. In the South Western Ontario Region there are more than 923 Easter Seal families who will benefit from these events. "Were thrilled to be the OFSC's Charity of Choice once again in HAPPY 14TH BIRTHDAY "LES" Jan. 19th 1998," says Jackie Steele, provincial Snowarama co- ordinator. ''Dedicated Ontario snowmobilers raise over $550,000 every year through Snowarama events, to show that they care about these special young people. This is a vital component to our annual fundraising goals at Easter Seals." The Easter Seal Society, Ontario provides essential services and programs to children with physical disabilities and their families through integrated preschool programs, community support, financial assistance for equipment, special camps, parent delegate programs and funding for research.
