tion project in northern Ontario that
had far more change orders, yet the
design contractor got no extra pay-
ment.
Since the project was financed
under the federal-provincial infras-
tructure program, she said, there
was a definite limit of $1.7 million
available. The actual construction
was $1.4 million with all other fees
on top of that. The county had only
$100,000 for all its own costs. The
budget was spent, she said, and
there was no money for the addi-
tional design fees which, she
argued, came in late.
In the end only two councillors
spoke in support of the architects.
John Doherty, reeve of Goderich,
made a motion to reopen the issue,
arguing "When changes are made
and approved, they should be paid
for."
Brian McBumey, reeve of Turn-
berry, seconded the motion, saying
"I hope there would be some room
to negotiate."
The motion was overwhelmingly
defeated and an angry Avis and
Rutledge left the room.

was hooked into it, it was not in
use.
Councillors, however, said that
there were many vacant apartments
and homes where the owners were
away for months at a time, where
the owners continued to pay fot
sewer service.
"If it runs to the building, you
pay," said Councillor Joe Seili.
Old Tunes
serenade
seniors
Thirty-three people gathered at
the Brussels United Church for
Dining for Seniors on Jan. 8. The
Old Tunes band, true to their name,
played many familiar tunes prior to
the meal. Millie and her helpers
prepared a delicious chicken dinner
with her special cottage pudding
for dessert.
Joan van der Meer introduced
Leah Vollrath a newly hired co-
ordinator with Town and Country
who, among other duties, will be
working jointly with Joan and
Brussels Dining. •
The "Old Tunes" comprising,
Harold and Dorothy Steffler and
Alice Brothers entertained again
after dinner. Those attending were
moved to sing-a-long and some
even danced. Great music, Great
fun.
A good-bye and thank you note
from Tara Ferguson, who has left
to return to school, was read.
A New Year's resolution reading
was given by Leah.
The door prize winner was
Norma Toulouse and the 50/50
draw was won by Janie Fear.
The next meeting, to be held Jan.
22, will feature John Marshall from
the Ontario Provincial Police
speaking on scams — telemarketing
fraud, home renovations fraud and
impersonation fraud.
