Winners were: high lady, Mabel Wheeler; second high lady, Lois Chamney; most lone hands, Florence Schefter; low lady, Aileen Leddy; high man, Milt Boyd; second high man, Kay Rich; lone hands, Dennis Leddy; low man, Clifford Coultes. There will be euchre again on Wednesday, Jan. 14 at 8 p.m. Everyone is welcome. The Belgrave Seniors bowling scores for Wednesday, Jan. 7 were Alice Nicholson, 105, 122; Marj Coultes, 100, 112; Mabel Wheeler, 114, 151; Evelyn Galbraith, 98, 107; Eleanor Neill, 105, 121; Jean Walker, 134, 122; Doris The New Year's Eve party was held in the WI Hall with 45 in attendance. Ten tables of euchre were played. The pnzes were as follows: high lady, Laura Johnston; second high lady, Isobel Craig; lone hands, Lillian Appleby; low lady, Alice Nicholson; high man, Harvey Edgar; second high man, Lloyd Appleby; lone hands, Bob Grasby; low man, Ed Stewart. The Belgrave branch of the Women's Institute will be hosting a potluck meal and program in the WI Hall, Belgrave beginning ai noon on Tuesday, Jan. 20. Everyone is welcome to attend The WMS held its meeting on Monday, Jan. 5 at the home of Hazel Dalrymple. The purpose was read in unison. The hymn Standing In the Portal was sung. The secretary's report was given by Margaret Siertsema, followed by the treasurer's report by Ivy Cloakey. The scripture lesson on feeding the multitude was read by Ivy. Margaret gave the topic from the study book "Loaves and Fishes" with Rev. Cathrine Campbell and Freda Scott taking part. A discussion took place on how food The Western Region of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has sent a total of 60 officers for one week to assist the officers in Eastern Ontario with help due to the aftermath of the vicious ice storm there this past week. Two officers from Huron County OPP, Constable Kane Robins and Constable Nigel Tilley left Monday morning to meet at Downsview Remington, 152, 154; Judy Gaunt, 109, 128; Ivy Cloakey, 114, 132; Doris Michie, 110, 160; Louise Bosman, 158, 112; Laura Johnston, 127, 85; George Michie, 125, 138, 168; Raymond Neill, 134, 189, 154; Ross Anderson, 112, 127, 120; Lorne Campbell, 155, 202, 178. A shoot party of 10 tables was held at the Community Centre Jan. 9. Winners were: high lady, Irlma Edgar; second high lady, Nell Johnston; most shoots, Doris Michie; low lady, Audrey Vath; high man, Gordon Bosman; second high man, Bill Nethery; most shoots, Garner Nicholson; low man, Eileen Miller. The next shoot party is Jan. 23. Les Shaw provided music for dancing. Several spot dances were chosen. Auld Lang Syne was sung at midnight and balloons broken. A delicious pot luck luncheon was enjoyed. Gordon Bosman thanked everyone for attending. John Roberts moved a vote of thanks to Ross and Wilma Higgins and Gord and Louise Bosman for hosting the party. and are asked to bring along their own dishes and cutlery for the potluck meal. Kevin Irwin of Kitchener and Ashley Irwin of Ashfield Twp. were guests at Betty Irwin's for a few days over Christmas and enjoyed Christmas Day dinner together. Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Edgar and Mrs. Irlma Edgar spent New Year's day with Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Stonehouse, celebrating New Glen and Verlaine Van Camp welcomed worshippers as they handed out the Service of Worship at Knox United Church on Sunday, Jan. 11, on Communion Sunday and the Baptism of Jesus. Laurie Procter and Amy Barnes were in charge of nursery. Joanne Robinson played the piano in the absence of Elizabeth Procter whose father passed away on Saturday. Rev. Mary Jane Hobden welcomed the congregation followed by the singing of Jesus Is Calling and Jesus Loves, Even Me for songtime. Call to Worship was read responsively. Prayer of Approach was said in unison. This was followed by the Hymn of Praise Glorious Things. The Prayer of Confession was read in unison. The Old Testament reading was from Isaiah 43: 1-7. The congregation joined in singing The Belgrave Evening Unit of Knox United Church held its January meeting at the home of Mabel Wheeler with 17 members and one guest present. Leader Barbara Anderson greeted everyone and opened the meeting with a poem, "A Patchwork Quilt'!. Laura Johnston and Mildred Yuill led the group in worship. Hymns, As With Gladness Men of Old and Standing at the Portal were sung. Laura chose scripture from Deuteronomy. Mildred's meditation gave a challenge for the new year. The offering was received and Mabel's Moms met on Wednesday, Jan. 7 at their regular time. It Those who attended were Rev. Mary Jane Hobden, Kim Higgins, Lila Procter and the children Stephen, Laura, Ashley, Jarrod and Jessica. Their topic was "Christmas Debt". Congratulations to Mary Cook on winning the grand prize of $1,000 in the Wingham Chamber of Teach Me God to Wonder. The children gathered in the front pew for story time. They were asked the question, "what do we use water for?" The children replied - drinking, swimming, washing clothes, watering plants, and cooking with. Cats and dogs need water to drink. Rev. Hobden talked about how Jesus got wet when he was baptized in the river. Jesus found out that he was God's son, just as people are God's family. The most important part of baptism is that everyone is God's child and loved by him. _ After prayer the children adjourned to Sunday School. Psalm 29 was read which reveals "The Voice of the Lord in the Storm". The Gospel Lesson was taken from Luke 3: 15-17, 21-22. The sermon followed. the same theme as children's time in that all are sons and daughters of God. In dedicated. A poem "Journey's what She or I take" closed the worship. The roll call was answered by recalling something unusual about Christmas. The secretary's, treasurer's and card reports were given. The February meeting is at the home of Barbara Anderson. The UCW General Meeting is Jan. 22 at 6:30 p.m. The men are welcome. It is to be a potluck supper. Dorothy Coultes is to show her pictures and tell of her visit to Australia. Mabel Wheeler introduced Mildred McAdam from Clinton, Commerce Retail Christmas promotion draw. Harvey Black was the lucky winner of a four-wheeler in the Belgrave Kinsmen Club New Year's Eve draw. He had a choice of a riding lawn mower, a snowmobile or a four wheeler. He picked up his prize from Lynn Hoy Enterprises Ltd. last Friday. Congratulations Harvey. May thoughts and prayers be with Elizabeth Procter and family on the passing away of Elizabeth's father. The congregation read prayer after communion in unison. The closing hymn was The Church's One Foundation. She told of her recent visit to Equador with the Medical Mission International Group. They spent two weeks working in two clinics as part of a 19-member team — 11 from Canada and eight from the U.S. Medical care is good there for those with money. Unsafe water causes many problems. The weather was very hot. They worked long hours. She stayed an extra week as a tourist. Louise Bosman thanked her. The Benediction and Grace were repeated.
