Students make festive houses
The news from
Rev. Bonnie Cole Arnal was
guest minister at Duff’s United
Church on Dec. 12. She opened the
service with the Call to Worship.
Patty and Cassandra Banks read
the Advent litany and Cassandra lit
the pink candle.
Following the choirs anthem
Rev. Cole Arnal called the children
forward, then asked for a volunteer.
Andrew VanVIiet came forward
and she told him that he was a very
rich, rich man. The rest of the
children were very poor and had no
food or money to pay for food and
Workman’s dream comes true
Whenever I hear of a person who
has had a dream come true in their
life my ears perk up. I talked to
such a person this past week. His
name is Brian Workman.
Ever since Brian was a child he
loved horses and loved being
around them. His dream was to one
day own his own farm, and indeed
that happenedL He started off
running a herd of feeder cattle and
horses on his farm.
After a few' years he realized that
having cattle wasn’t what he really
wanted to do and he knew that for
him, horses was the area he wanted
to specialize in. So Brian added on
a 56’ x 128’ insulated riding arena
to his bam. The new addition was
also equipped for boarding horses.
Brian began breaking horses
when he was in his late teens. He
began taking trips to Texas where
he learned from some of the best
horse trainers in the world, names
such as Jimmy Emmerson, Pat
Carter and his favourite master
horseman, ’Matt Locke Rose’.
Picking up a lot of their skills and
techniques he has now got this
horse training down to a fine art.
Brian says he loves his lifestyle.
He has accomplished what he has
always wanted to do. How much
better can it get, to be able to make
a living at what he loves to do. He
they wanted to borrow from him.
Well that was okay but he told
them they had to pay him back. She
asked those who wer,e hungry to
come up and place a mark on the
board in front of Andrew the Rich
Guy.
She told them many times the
people came and put marks on and
they still were hungry and poor and
Andrew was still rich, very rich.
Rev. Cole Arnal said that that is
sort of what the Jubilee is about.
She took the paper with all the
marks on them and tore it up.
is living his dream.
Brian’s W6 Quarter and Paint
Horse sign now has an added title
of J3B Stables as JoAnne McKague
has become a partner in the
business. JoAnne brings with her
many years of horse training
experience and competitions. Like
Brian she also competes in team
penning, roping, break-away
roping, barrel racing and has been
in the Ontario Rodeo Assoc, for
five years.
She hosts trail rides and

Jubilee year is where all debts are
forgiven and everyone starts all
over again.
She then turned the service over
to the Sunday School and the older
children picked up the bells and
played Joy to the World. When
they were done the younger
children, using their bells played
Jingle Bells.
The children then went out into

It was more gingerbread house
making for the other Walton
kindergarten class this week. The
students also did some weaving on
plastic canvas and made Christmas
tree decorations with them.
The Christmas play is coming up
next week and the class has been
busy working on their costumes.
The Grade l/2s are examining
their own family customs and some
that they may not know about.
They made some potato pancakes
called latkes to eat with applesauce
as they learned about the
celebration of Hanukkah. Some
Canadians started celebrating
Hanukkah on Dec. 4.
They each made a spinning top
called a dreidle and learned to play
the dreidle game. As they read
stories of Hanukkah they acted out
putting candles in a menorah for
the eight days of Hanukkah.
The Grade 3s have been writing
Christmas stories called, Santa’s
Problem and Trouble with the
Reindeer. They are also reading the
class novel, Santa Paws which is
about a little dog and his Christmas
adventure of goodwill.
The Grade 4s are preparing for
the play and are also having the
challenge of making a free-standing
