Early in the second, Listowel evened the tally only to see Michael McDowell retake the lead minutes later. Collin Whitfield assisted. However, the defense could not contain the shooters as Listowel hit for two and the win in the third. The Milverton Stars were their next opponent as they saw their fortunes turn. McDowell played a strong game, notching four of the five Blyth goals, including a natural hattrick, and assisted on the fifth score. Whitfield scored the team’s other netter. Even though Walkerton scored four times in the first period, Blyth showed persistence. Blyth s first goal came with only 43 seconds remaining in the first period thanks to Mike Haggitt assisted by Jeff Heipel. Then just short of four minutes into the second period, Haggitt earned another goal assisted this time by Craig Somerville and Scott Kuenzig. Ironically Blyth’s final goal in the second period was just under the four-minute mark! This was thanks to the work of Tyler Stewart assisted by Chris Carter and Darryle Young to finish the second period with a score of 6-3 in favour of Walkerton. The intermission proved to be beneficial for Blyth when they returned on the ice for the final period. At 11:47 Kevin Kernighan scored with the aid of Haggitt and Kuenzig. Then Walkerton scored their final goal with 10 minutes remaining in the game. Blyth then began really demonstrating their capabilities when two goals were scored in less than one minute. The first was at 3:31 thanks to Stewart with the aid of Heipel and Kernighan. With only 2:38 minutes remaining in the game Craig Somerville scored Blyth’s final goal aided by Phillip Connolly and Stewart. Although Blyth had 24 minutes in penalties in comparison to 12 minutes for Walkerton, the final score ended up 7-6 in favour of Walkerton. Next Sunday at 5 p.m. Paisley will be visiting Blyth. .Something For Everyone The Blyth Novice Reps took two wins in play last week when they hit the ice against Zurich and Goderich.
