Cheerio Club plays cards
Hullett Central Public School Grade 1 students Heather Gibson, left, and Jennifer Snell used
a television set and hand puppets to convey the message of courtesy as the class
presented a skit and song at a school assembly last Friday. Once a month, the students
gather for “virtue” assemblies.
Following Christmas dinner with
all the trimmings at Tom’s Place,
nine members and two guests of the
Cheerio Club went to the home of
by Hazel Reid. Roll call was
answered with a reading or poem.
An enjoyable afternoon was spent
playing cards.
UCW celebrates season
The UCW Christmas party held
Dec. 6 was again a most
pleasurable gathering. After a
bountiful potluck dinner familiar
carols were sung, accompanied by
Marsha Szusz.
Cheryl Trewartha, Marjorie
Duizer, Marsha Szusz and Paul
Ross conducted an inspirational
worship service.
With a table of souvenirs, a slide
•show and personal anecdotes, the
Dougherty family of Londesboro
gave a revealing account of their
year spent living on the island of
St. Vincent.
President Kittie MacGregor sent
everyone on a happy holiday
season with a beautiful blessing
from the album, Touched By An
Angel from the familiar television
series by the same name.
The pupils of Hullett Central
School will present their Christmas
Concert on Wednesday, Dec. 15 at
7 p.m. Christmas holidays will
begin with dismissal on Dec. 23.
Sympathy of the community is
extended to Bob and Mary Peel on
the passing of Bob’s sister, Joyce
Lundy of Dutton after a brief
illness.
Such a lot of chatter there was
about the village in the past week
or so over the implementation of 9-
1-1 service in our district.
Apparently all street addresses have
been changed from an earlier
designation making house numbers
a hot item for area hardware
departments.
Township employees have been
busy installing blue number signs
in the rural areas. Finally there is a
reason to cut the grass around that
post that was installed at the end of
the lane months/years ago.

Bert and Joanne Lyon greeted
churchgoers at Londesboro United
Church this past Sunday. The
ushers were David and Karen
Whyte.
During the children’s time, Rev.
Paul Ross explained that the word
Advent means coming toward. In
this case the church is coming
towards Christmas. This third
Sunday of Advent, Corey Pollard,
lit the pink candle, the candle of
joy. Another seven stickers were
added to their Christmas sticker
picture.
The scripture readings were
Isaiah 40: 1-11 and Mark 1: 1-9.
Rev. Ross’s message, titled
‘Playing Second Fiddle’, centred
on the story of John the Baptist. In
the year 27, John, a religious
ascetic, proclaimed that the
promised Messiah was coming.
This prophet was the first voice of
God to His people in 100 years. He
was the messenger, the voice from
the wilderness.
At the Huronview Fellowship on
Thursday, Dec. 16, the primary and
junior choirs will be entertaining
the residents with carols and a
program at 7 p.m.
Ken and Marilyn Woods of
Wingham are interested in
obtaining a 1986 church pictorial
album. Apparently Edwin (Ted)
Woods, at Huronlea, has wom out
his copy. As he takes great delight
in these pictures, they wondered if
anyone might have a spare copy for
a replacement.
