Snuggling in with Santa
Under clear skies and unseasonably warm conditions,
children from Blyth and area had an opportunity to take a
wagon ride with jolly old St. Nick Saturday afternoon
thanks to the Blyth Lions Club.
Scouts buy tents, canoes
As reported in The Citizen Dec.
I, 1st Blyth Scouting was the
recipient of a Trillium Foundation
grant of $4,000 to support Scouting
in Blyth.
Ten tents have recently been
purchased with some of the money.
The purchase of two canoes will
take place when the market has
been explored.
On behalf of the youth, the
Group Committee is delighted that
their application for funding was
approved. Increased registration
numbers and a dynamic, outdoor-
oriented program were straining
limited resources. Tents currently
being used were old, and not all in
good condition. Increased water
activities required the addition of
more canoes.
The lack of snow and wintery
weather has not dampened the
enthusiasm of the youth for the
holiday season. Beavers will tour
the main street of Blyth to judge
Christmas decorations in store
windows. They are gathering
family pictures and momentos to
make a personal family tree craft,
and are looking forward to a
Christmas party and gift exchange
on Dec. 21.
The Cubs have been very keen to
complete badge work this year.
Requirements for the ‘Blue Star’
are nearing completion. As part of
their community awareness, they
toured the Blyth Sewage Treatment
Plant, and really enjoyed an
‘alphabet tour’ of Blyth for one
meeting night. The object was to
find something that started with or
contained each letter of the
alphabet. Their ingenuity was
impressive-.
For the first aid requirement
Debbie MacKinnon taught the
Cubs basic first aid knowledge.
Awareness of what to do in a
medical emergency is important for
the youth to know throughout all of
their Scouting experience.
As they continue into Scouts and
Venturers they will expand their
knowledge so that they will be
better prepared to deal with
emergency situations that might
arise.
Scouts held one meeting with the
Blyth Guides. Both youth and
leaders shared ideas, and
participated in joint activities.
December 3-5 the Troop camped
at Gary Nicholson’s woodlot.
Forestry Manager Warren Moore
instructed the youth on proper
management of a wood lot,
including pruning. With the boughs
that "'ere cut off they constructed

Kathy’s Korner
By Kathy Bromley
On Monday, Dec. 6 there were five tables for the weekly euchre party at
Bainton's Art Gallery.
The high scores went to Francis Clark and Graeme McDowell, while Ruth
Shiell and John Hesselwood had the low scores for the night. Both Ted and
Marjory East had the most lone hands.
Euchre parties will continue to be held every Monday night at 8 p.m. in
Bainton's Art Gallery. Everyone is welcome to enjoy an evening of cards.
Please take the time to give credit when credit is due. This world has
become one of such a fast pace to keep up to. In turn the more
accomplishments we make, the more we push ourselves to achieve. Take the
time to show loved ones, workers or volunteers that what they do is greatly
appreciated.
An excellent example of this was demonstrated when Dave Cook, Brent
Scrimgeour. Rob Finch and Doug Walker were nominated by the hockey
team and parents after the guidance and support they demonstrated when the
players on their Bantam team had to deal with such tragic events in one
week.
So please do not hesitate to express your admiration or do something as a
way of saying “thank you” to those who are still with us and in turn boost
their self-esteem.
I know my sister-in-law Jane is now up above observing everything and
very proud of not only her accomplishments in life, but also the fact that she
was recognized for it by the Huron Community Care Access Centre.
Kathy’s Quote of the Week: Good examples have twice the value of good
advice.
