Sweepstakes will be held this Saturday at 9 a.m. in the Village of Blyth Municipal Offices. The prize is an authentic, autographed Wayne Gretzky hockey sweater, valued at up to $1,200. Authentic Wayne Gretzky merchandise is increasingly difficult to obtain and organizers are excited to have the autographed sweater. They look forward to Saturday’s draw. “Some ticket buyers are only interested in winning the Gretzky sweater - and those who haven’t bought tickets yet, still have time”, said Todd MacDonald. As of Monday, 1,200 tickets had been sold. Only 1,500 are available. Net proceeds from the WIN! WIN! Sweepstakes will establish the Blyth and District Community Centre Capital Fund. The fund is to begin preparing for the inevitable capital improvements that will be necessary at the arena in the near future. The grand prize drawing will be held Christmas Eve day for a loaded 2000 Chevy Z71 extended cab pickup with a suggested retail price of $44,270. The winner chooses the colour. A familiar name from Blyth Fes tival has pulled together an A-list of performers to help out his home town. Director Paul Thompson, a grad uate of Listowel District Secondary School contacted North Perth Mayor Vincent Judge shortly after the disastrous downtown fire in Listowel Nov. 16 to ask what he might do to help. Thompson said while he was wondering what to do, he began receiving calls from other actors who had been saying the same thing. “We’ve got to do something for Listowel.” A gala benefit has been planned for Dec. 17 at the Listowel Agricul tural Society. Among the perform ers, dubbed the “firefighters from the arts” is playwright/actor Ted Johns, well-known stage and televi sion actor David Fox, one of Cana da’s foremost actresses, Anne Anglin, who is married to Thomp son, actors Jack Nicholson and Eric Coates (both familiar names at Blyth Festival), and popular enter tainer Don Harron. Ticket prices are $15 with all proceeds going to help those dis placed by the fire. FRI. -THURS.
