LUELLA JEAN MITCHELL Luella Jean Mitchell of Brussels passed away at Victoria Hospital, London on Tuesday, Nov. 30, 1999. She was in her 77th year. Born in Brussels on Oct. 26, 1923, Miss Mitchell was the daughter of the late Percy and Annie (Dickson) Mitchell. Luella was a very dedicated teacher who was loved by her many pupils. She began her teaching career at Anderson’s School in Morris Twp., then Kincardine and Atwood, before returning to Brussels to complete 37 years with her loved profession. For many years as a young girl, Luella worked in the Brussels 5 cent to $l store which was started in 1935 by her two aunts. After retiring from teaching, she worked at the store full time helping her cousin Jack with the business. She was very active within her church, beginning as a teenager teaching Sunday School and continuing in later life by singing in the choir until these past few months when her health began to fail. This past year Luella was made a life member of the UCW, having been a willing hard worker for many years. She was always there to lend a helping hand whenever she saw the need. She will be sadly missed by her dear sister Helen Mitchell of Caressant Care in Listowel, dear cousins, Emerson Mitchell and his wife Phyllis of Walton, Mrs. Lillian Beer of Hensall and their families as well as several cousins in Saskatchewan and British Columbia. She was also loved by her many friends and former pupils. Luella was predeceased by her cousin Jack Mitchell. Friends were received by the family from 7 - 9 p.m. Thursday and 2 - 4 and 7 - 9 p.m. Friday at the Schimanski Family Funeral Home, Brussels. The funeral service was conducted from Brussels United Church on Saturday, Dec. 4 at 1:30 p.m. with Mrs. Joan Golden and Rev. Cathrine Campbell officiating. The organist was Mrs. Betty Campbell and the pianist was Mrs. Alice Brothers. Carrying floral tributes were Laura Cousins and Kristen Beer. Pallbearers were Steve Beer, John Beer, Gordon Mitchell, Ross Mitchell, Neil Mitchell and Tim Cousins. Interment was in Brussels Cemetery. As an expression of sympathy, in lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Brussels United Church Memorial Fund or to the Canadian Cancer Society. HELEN ALEXANDER Helen Alexander, 88, wife of Stan Alexander, of Caressant Care, Listowel, and formerly of Ethel, died at Listowel Memorial Hospital Monday, Nov. 29, 1999. Born Dec. 31, 1910 in Ingersoll, she was a daughter of the late William Francis Beirnes and the former Gladys Blowers. Besides her husband, she is survived by her family Bob and wife Joyce of Ethel, Dona and husband Jim Knight of Brussels and John and wife Lois of Alberta; son-in-law Joe Raynard of Listowel; 14 grandchddren and 21 great-grandchildren; a sister Mildred and husband Ralph Douglas of Atwood and sisters-in- law Mrs. Bill Beirnes and Mrs. Cliff Beirnes of Listowel. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by a daughter Beatrice Raynard and brothers Ralph, Bill and Cliff. Friends and relatives were received Thursday from 2 - 4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. at the Peebles Funeral Home, 141 John St., Atwood, where the funeral service was held Friday at 2 p.m. Joan Golden officiated. A few thoughts were given by Darlene Hayden. Pallbearers were Michael, Brian and Wayne Alexander, Steve Bowles, Dwayne Raynard and Gerry Wheeler. Flowerbearers were Barb Bowles, and Karen Menheere. Burial was in Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Ethel. SARA ILEEN JORGENSEN Sara Ileen Jorgensen of RR4, Seaforth passed away at Seaforth Community Hospital on Sunday, Dec. 5, 1999. She was 78. Ileen Riley was the beloved wife of Tom Jorgensen and the late Laurence Plant. She was the dear mother of Glen Plant and his wife Jo-Anne of Alberta and also loved by six grandchildren. She was predeceased by her parents, John Riley and Fanny Grasbie and her sister, and brother- in-law Helen and Maurice Cameron. Friends and relatives were received at the Whitney Ribey Funeral Home Tuesday from 2 - 4 and 7-9 p.m. where funeral services will be held on Wednesday (today) at 2 p.m. Pallbearers were Glen McKercher, Bill King, Glen Haney, Tim Kruse, Bob Costello and Joe McQuaid. Rev. Judith Springett officiated. Organist was Marian Rose and soloist was Deb Haney. Interment will be in Brussels Cemetery. Multiple Sclerosis Society of Canada 1 -800-268-7582 CLIFFORD DERWIN SHOBBROOK Clifford Derwin Shobbrook of RR1, Blyth passed away in Wingham on Nov. 30, 1999 in his 88th year. Clifford lived in Hullett Twp. and was a member of the Londesboro United Church. He was the beloved husband of the late Ruth (Manning) Shobbrook who predeceased him in 1991. He was the dear father of Charles and Shirley Shobbrook of RR3, Walton and Margaret and Wayne Allin of RR1, Blyth, and loved grandfather ; of Julie and Paul Jackson of Dundas and Dean Shobbrook and friend Lisa of Thunder Bay. He will be sadly missed by great­ grandchildren Laura, Janine and Craig Jackson and Riley and Alexander Shobbrook. Clifford was the dear brother of Beth Knox of Clinton. He was predeceased by one brother Leonard Shobbrook. Friends were received at the Beattie-Falconer Funeral Homes Ltd. “Tasker Chapel”, Blyth on Wednesday from 2-4 and 7 - 9 p.m. where the funeral was held on Thursday, Dec. 2 at 2 p.m. Rev. Paul Ross officiated. Interment will be in Brussels Cemetery. Donations to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Heart and Stroke Foundation would be appreciated as expressions of sympathy. GOING. He was in his 89th year. He will be sadly missed by his beloved wife Madeline. He was the dear father of Stephen Rose of Mississauga, Marie Pulfer of Brussels, Don Rose of Airdree, AB, Larry Rose and his wife Barb of RR3, Brussels, Roy Rose and his wife Shirley of Halton Hills, Ken Rose and his wife Carol of Mississauga and Linda Verhey and her friend Neil Wilson ofChatham. J? He was the dear brother of Jack Rose and his wife Gaye of Barrie. Mr. Rose was also loved by his 13 grandchildren and eight great­ grandchildren. He was predeceased by his brothers, Walton, Edward, Harry, and his infant twin. There was no funeral home visitation. A graveside service was held at Brussels Cemetery on Monday, Dec. 6 at 11 a.m. As an expression of sympathy, memorial donations may be made to Wingham and District Hospital.
