Joyce Jackiin and Philip Graber attended the Nov. 16 meeting on behalf of the 20 residents living on the edge of Brussels who wish to join the village. Brussels Reeve Ralph Watson also attended. With amalgamation talks with Turnberry ended, the Brussels resi dents asked that annexation be revisited. However, Morris council lors said with the township stand ing alone, they would not be agreeable to the annexation. Councillor Neil Warwick said that if they stand alone, they need all the assessment they can get. There was also concern that if they started cutting up the township in one section, it would set a prece dent for other areas. Jackiin noted that there was no benefit for the residents to be in Morris as all their services were provided by Brussels. Deputy-Reeve Keith Johnston, acting as chair of the meeting in the absence of the reeve, explained the possibility of a tax rate increase with the Wingham group. Brussels Reeve Ralph Watson said that Brussels would be area rated when they amalgamated. It was agreed that council would discuss the matter again when all councillors were in attendance.
