PAGE 9. ~ Certified Vehicles ~ THIS WEEK'S SPECIAL Scary moment North London’s goalie gets some help from defense during this scramble in front of his net on Sunday afternoon in Brussels. The squad met Ingersoll as part of the second weekend of the Brussels Optimist Atom tournament. (Ashley Groppphoto) Tykes lose momentum, game Though the Brussels Tykes got off to a fast start against Hensail, Nov. 27, the offense was soon qui eted. Just 24 seconds into the game, Matt Huether took the puck from the blueline, faked out the goalie and scored. Huether, Gavin Bowers and Mor gan Deitner played strong defense on the first shift as they aided goalie Ty Sebastian in keeping the puck out of the net. At the 16:37 mark, Huether’s smooth skating got him past two defenders for his second goal. Sebastian batted shots away and dove on loose pucks as Jordan Roberts helped cleared the zone. Ray Huether set up Brendan Stretton for the squad’s third netter in less than eight minutes. Cole McLean and Ryan Baker worked good defense, but Hensall broke through the shutout at 10:32 of the first then snapped another in five minutes later. Hensall’s offense woke up and began a strong attack on Sebastian as he gloved and fell on shots. There was a very close call for Brussels when the puck squirted free of a sprawling Sebastian, but M. Huether stick-handled the puck out of the crease to ease the pres sure. Bowers had two shots on net before the buzzer and Nic Cow ing’s shot from the blueline nar rowed missed. Up 3-2 entering the second frame, Brussels’ defense could not hold off the Hensall skaters as six goals were allowed. Sebastian ended the contest with two great stops, first gloving the puck then deflecting another wide with a kick of the leg. Stars edge Sting In Blyth’s Industrial League action there were two close games this week. The Stars edged the Sting 4-3 in overtime with Mike Haggitt (two), Darryle Eckert and Steve Bromley helping get the win. Kurt Whitfield, Dean Whitfield ' and Todd MacDonald were the Sting scorers. The Bulldogs downed the Chiefs 5-3. Greg Blok with three and Mike Bromley with two bulged the twine for the winners, with the Chiefs’ Brian Fischer, Dennis Vere and Jeff Taylor scoring.
