Christmas bags for Christmas Bureau Organizers of special Christmas donation bags are hoping to build on last year's success of the program designed to help boost the Huron County Christmas Bureau. 'Inside local newspapers across Huron County this week is a donation bag that can be used for toys, clothing and food donated to the bureau which helps provide Christmas gifts to more than 1.000 county children whose families are in need of extra help. The bag is designed to remind people of the need for their support and to encourage them to bring the donations to Christmas Bureau's branches in communities across the county. The donation bag effort is an initiative developed by a partnership of area businesses and industries, whose names appear on the bag. and is spearheaded by The Huron Expositor and the Seaforth Lions Club and Agricultural Society. The two Seaforth organizations worked with The Huron Expositor. Same as last year, the bags will be distributed through newspapers across the county in the Nov. 24 editions. Beginning Dec. 6 through Dec. 10, the Christmas Bureau branches will be open from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. to receive donations. Donations with or without the bags, can be left at St. George’s Anglican Church in Goderich. Exeter United Church. Wingham Pentecostal Church, the Seaforth Agriplex at the fairgrounds, sponsored by St. James Catholic Church and the Ontario Street United Church in Clinton. They can also be taken to area food banks. While all donations are appreciated, including financial contributions, the Christmas Bureau finds a shortage in clothing in teen sizes and children’s sizes from six to 12. The bureau is operated by the Children's Aid Society of Huron County and has been helping families for more than 40 years. Community newspapers across the county are encouraging the public to help those in need this Christmas. Kids get Jr, Citizen nod Quick action, initiative and help­ ing a fellow human in need has earned two local youths Ontario Junior Citizen of the Year nomina­ tions. Just over a month ago, Crystal Edgar of RR2, Bluevale and Randy Milinkovic of Ethel were the first to go to the aid of Joseph McClel­ land, the victim of a single-vehicle accident in Grey Twp. McClelland had laid in a field all night so when the students’ school bus passed b> in the morning Edgar and Milinkovic quickly volunteered their coats to keep him warm, administered to his needs and kept him calm as they waited for help. Due to their unselfish act of kind­ ness, the pair have been nominated for the Ontario Community News­ paper Association Award by Bethany Edgar and The North Huron Citizen. The judging will take place on Dec. 2 with winners announced the following day. Vandals cause damage to truck On Nov. 17, employees of West Wawanosh Twp. reported a vehicle damaged. Sometime after closing of the township gravel pit on Nov. 16, 3 p.m. and before 8 a.m. on Nov. 17 a person entered the gravel pit and damaged a Ford vehicle parked there. The vehicle had several windows smashed causing $1,300 damage. A golf club was found inside the front of the vehicle. Anyone who has information that can assist the Huron OPP detachment is asked to call them or contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800- 222-8477(TIPS).
