FRED STEPHENSON Frederick George Stephenson of Brussels passed away suddenly at his residence on Friday, Nov. 12, 1999. He was in his 57th year. Born in Wingham on March 2, 1943. Fred was the son of the former Sarah Cruickshank and the late Frederick Mac “Dick” Stephenson. On Feb. 18, 1966, he married his beloved wife Sharon Storey. Fred attended Brussels Public School and Wingham and District High S chool. Fred had always worked for Baker’s Butcher Shop in Brussels, and eventually he and the late Frank Thompson purchased the business and renamed it Thompson and Stephenson Meat Market where they served the community for many years. Most recently, Fred had been working as a long haul truck driver. Fred was very active within St. John's Anglican Church serving as a warden, deputy warden and on the board of management. Fred was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, neighbour and friend to many. Fred will be sadly missed by Sharon, his beloved wife of 33 years, his children Charlene and Jason Hergert of Ottawa, Corrinna and Peter Strong of Mississsauga, Chantelle and Arnold den Dekker of Brussels, and his grandchildren Connor, Mackenzie, Kennedy and Ryan. He was the dear son of Sarah Stephenson of Brussels and son-in- law of Charlie Storey and Mary Pennington of Winthrop. He was the dear brother-in-law of Ken and Anita Storey and Don and Anne Storey, all of St. Marys, Lois and Wayne Todd of Wingham and Doreen and Ralph Welsh of Bayfield. Fred was predeceased by his father Dick Stephenson, daughter Rhonda and mother-in-law Mary Storey. Friends were received by the family Monday at the Schimanski Family Funeral Home, Brussels. The funeral service was conducted from St. John’s Anglican Church, Brussels, on Tuesday, Nov. 16 at 2 p.m. with Rev. Nancy Beale officiating. Rev. Brad Beale had a scripture reading and acted as the Crucifer while Michelle Blake was the organist. Carrying floral tributes were his nieces and nephews Brent Wilkinson, Marcia Wilkinson. Jenny Storey, Danny Storey, Mary Jane Storey, Lanette Todd, Stephen Todd, Amy Welsh, Aaron Welsh and Jeremy Welsh. Pallbearers were brothers-in-law Ken Storey, Don Storey, Wayne Todd and Ralph Welsh and friends Jim Cooper, and Brian Huether. Interment was in Brussels Cemetery. As an expression of sympathy memorial donations may be made to St. John’s Anglican Church. JESSIE BREWER Mrs. Jessie (Dickson) Brewer ol London, beloved wife of the late Fred Brewer Sr. passed away peacefully in London on Saturday, Nov. 20, 1999. She was the dear mother of Fred Brewer and his wife Nancy of Brussels and Lynne Dennis and her husband Ron of London. She was also loved by her five grandchildren Ron and Anne Dennis, Fred Brewer Jr. and his wife Patti, Lori Brewer, Melissa and Lee Keates and Amanda Brewer. At Mrs. Brewer’s request there was a private family funeral service conducted in the chapel of the A. Millard George Funeral Home, 60 Ridout St. S„ London on Monday, Nov. 22 with interment at Brussels Cemetery. As an expression of sympathy, in lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the charity of your choice. ROSS ELLIOTT William Ross Elliott of Goderich passed away at Stratford General Hospital on Sunday. Nov. 14, 1999. He was in his 77th year. Born in Maryborough Twp. on March 3, 1923, Ross was the son ofq the late Samuel and Bertha Elliott and the beloved husband of the late Christina (Agnew) Elliott who predeceased him in 1984. Ross served as a Sergeant with the 4th Canadian Armed Brigade in Europe during the Second World War. With the end of the war, Ross married Christina Agnew and started his family, eventually moving to the Toronto and then Fort Erie areas. Ross will be sadly missed by his daughters Evelyn Nolet and her husband Bob of Mississauga and Roberta Elliott and her husband Adrian Tate of Toronto. He was the dear brother of Evelyn Jarvis of Kincardine and Bert Elliott of RR2, Blyth. He was also loved by his eight grandchildren, two great­ grandchildren and his many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by -his sister Marie Lucas and his brother Ted Elliott. Cremation has taken place. A Legion service, under the auspices of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch No. 218, Brussels, then followed by a memorial service was conducted from the Schimanski Family Funeral Home, Brussels on Thursday, Nov. 18 at 2 p.m. with Rev. Nancy Beale officiating. A eulogy paying tribute to the life of her father was given by Roberta Elliott. Following the service, family and friencj^ gathered at the Brussels Legion for a reception. ALBERTA MILDRED VANNAN Mrs. Mildred Vannan of Belgrave passed away at Braemar Retirement Centre, Wingham on Monday, Nov. 22, 1999 at the age of 95. The former Mildred Perdue was the beloved wife of the late Lawrence Vannan who predeceased her in 1976. She will be fondly remembered by many friends including Lavina and Russell Robinson of Wingham. She was predeceased by her parents Albert and Ellen (Nellie) (McCrea) Perdue, her sister Laura Sargeant and brother Jack Perdue. Visitation was at McBurney Funeral Home, Wingham on Tuesday from I p.m. until service time at 2 p.m. Rev. Len Meyers officiated. Interment was in Brandon Cemetery, East Wawanosh Twp. WI members discussft Y2K preparedness Continued from page 2 provoking talk on experiences while in political office, from talking to other women’s groups to representing Canada in Rome several times. He also touched on the changes in the agricultural scene from horses being replaced by tractors and whether ancestors thought of this as the ruination of the world as some think of the newly-altered crops. “Are we Y2K ready?” he asked. Who knows what will happen in the next few years, the changes will happen at a greater rate than even in the past few years. Will they be able to put additives to cereals to prevent or cure diabetes? Or lace sweet com with Viagra? “We must look to the future and think positive about the new innovations as we must go forward for our future generations depend on progression.” Mrs. Brothers then introduced an energetic group of young ladies consisting of Jill Johnston and Keshia and Kayla Bishop, who stepdanced. Ida Evans had a humorous little story about “Brother Bill”. In remembrance of those who fought and who lost their lives in the war a poem entitled Take time to Remember was read by Peggy Keffer and two minutes of silence were observed. Happy Birthday was sung to members having a birthday this month, Peggy Cudmore, Eleanor Hemingway and Doris McCall. The next meeting will be held on Wednesday, Dec. 8 at JR’s for a Christmas lunch and the meeting will then move to the library basement. The Clinton and District Christian School Society thanks the following individuals and businesses for their generous donations to the 12th Annual Talent and Services Auction held at the school on Nov. 5, 1999. Thanks also goes to those who donated money and those who donated anonymously. With your help, $23, 400.00 was raised.
