Women return from England
Cambridge principal,
Don’t forget the mystery tour
Saturday, Nov. 27. For more
information call Monique Baan.
Pearl McCallum and Joyce
Hartman just got back from a trip
to England. They spent a week
visiting Tony and Eilene Fountain
of West Suffex.
things. She said their guests treated
them royally and she hopes to show
them as good a time when they
come to Canada.
Wouldn’t it be something to be
reading along in a national
magazine and ail of a sudden find a
story about Walton in it. Brett Lee
happened to pick up Illustrated
Racer X (National) Magazine and
here was a five-page fully
illustrated story of the Walton
Transcam Motocross this past
August. The title of the article by
Jason T. Griffiths was, Checking
Canada’s Motocross!
Duff’s guest speaker
Marilyn McDonald and Sarah
McDonald were greeters at Duff’s
United Church on Nov. 2I. Guest
speaker was Nancy Patterson from
Stratford, a principal at a small
school in Cambridge.
The Call to Worship was a
responsive reading from Psalm
100.
The choir sang, On Eagles
Wings.
Patterson announced that the
Christmas home tour was a great
success with 457 tickets sold. A big
thank you to all who came out and
toured the homes, and the
volunteers who made it possible. A
special thank you to Maxine
Walton PS news
Houston who organized the whole
thing.
If you enjoy singing Christmas
carols come to church 15 minutes
earlier and join in the fun.
Walton UCW’s Christmas
potluck supper is on Dec. 1 at 6:30.
Bring one main dish and one
dessert.
Patterson called the children to
the front where she told them the
story of Ann Sullivan who as a
child was kept in a cage and how
an old nurse was kind to her and
Ann later shared that kindness
when she met Helen Keller.
Her sermon was called One of
the Least of These.
Kdgns study E
The Walton kindergarten class
studied the letter E and with that
they sang elephant songs and
played with the elephant puppet,
Elfie. They also made self portraits
for their report cards.
Grade 3 did some interesting
story writing such as If I came
upon something or someone that
would grant me three wishes. Some
of the writings were about Genies
and magic lanterns.
For art the Grade 4s made posters
to advertise the Brussels Santa
Parade on Dec. 4. They have also
started a reading club. They will be
doing different themes every six
weeks or so. They have to read five
books about the theme. The first is
about celebrating many cultures of
our land. At the end of the six
weeks a special reading club
celebration will happen.

the world to reflect on what ways
this could have happened. Britain
was not aware of the coming
holocaust. The war wiped out the
flowers of a whole generation of
manhood.
Even now there are some
countries creating and testing the
atomic bomb, which forces all to be
watchful and support the United
Nations.
The leaders read memorial
poems written by children.
Business was conducted and the
December meeting was planned.
Mrs. Stuart Stevenson offered to
host the Christmas meeting which
will be a potluck meal on Dec. 14.
The election of officers for the
next two years was held.
Mrs. Stewart Steiss took as her
topic for the meeting Mutuality in
Mission Partnerships. The members
were divided into two equal groups.
Points of discussion were
suggested to both sides. They
learned that one group or partner
might have more power than the
other group, but through mutual
caring and nurturing, acceptance
and understanding can be reached
on both sides.
These skills reflect on the
personal relationships in everyday
life.
The meeting closed with Mizpah
Benediction and lunch was served
by Mrs. Mervin Schneider and Mrs.
Brenda Perrie assisted by the
hostess.
A short Ladies Aid meeting was
held to make plans for the music
night on Nov. 28 at 7:30 p.m.
One of the highlights of the trip
was seeing the Crown Jewels. Pearl
said some of the most common
questions asked of the House
Warden are “Are the jewels real?
and what are they worth?”
They also went to the Tower of
London and there they saw the
wine cistern, the heaviest piece of
English plate weighing 8,000 oz. or
1/4 of a ton. The interior is
engraved with the royal arms of
King George the IV.
They visited the Dominion
Theatre and saw Beauty and the
Beast.
Taking a ride in a double decker
bus they saw Buckingham Palace,
St. Paul’s Cathedral, the house of
parliament, Big Ben and the Tower
Bridge.
Another attraction is the New
Millennium Wheel which is all set
to open Jan. 2, 2000. It is a huge
ferris wheel with each seat holding
25 people. It will take 45 minutes
to complete one cycle and one can
see all of London. It is located on
the South Bank of Thames River
and it is the highest observation
wheel in the world.
One more thing to note is that gas
over there is $1.82 a litre.
The ladies had such a wonderful
time and saw so many incredible
Theft in
Belmore
On Nov. 15, shortly after 7:30
a.m. a break-in was discovered at
the Saddledome Restaurant situated
on County Rd. 12 in Belmore.
The owner told the officer that
sometime after 8:15 p.m. on
Nov. 14 and before 7 a.m. Nov. 15 a
window was forced open gaining
entry to the restaurant. Once inside
a quantity of loose cigarettes left
behind the counter and Bic lighters
left on the counter were stolen.
Anyone who can help police in
this investigation is asked to call
the Huron OPP or Crime Stoppers.
