Blyth Tyke team faces
strong Clinton squad
The Blyth Purple Tyke Team
took to home ice on Saturday to
face a strong squad from Clinton.
The first period was met by a
sleepy home squad as Clinton
pummeled the boys allowing four
goals. The crowd “riding the pines’’
watched in amazement as goalie
Grant Sparling, in the face of
adversity, turned away countless
shots to keep his team in the game.
The second period found the
Purple team wide awake. Several
rushes were made by the line of
Colin Bokhout, Tyler Middegaal
and Kirby Cook, but failing to pick
up rebounds were turned repeatedly
away. The next line composed of
Adam Cronin, Matt Chalmers and
Tyler Black didn't fare any better
Girls in see-saw battle
There was a lot of back-and-forth
action when the Wingham Bantam
Girls took to the ice in Lucknow,
Nov. 20.
Nicole Procter made a lot of nice
saves for her first appearance in
net.
While Wingham had a lot of
opportunities to take the game, they
couldn’t push the puck over the
line.
The team was downed 2-1 with
the lone goal coming off the stick
of Kerri Meier with 29 seconds left
in the first. Carly Quennell earned
as they crossed the opposing blue
line to fire in several bruising shots
also blocked by their rivals.
While Clinton got the benefit of
bouncing pucks in the first. Purple
defensemen Lukas Witherspoon,
Mathew Popp, Sheldon Reid and
Aaron Popp jumped all over the
attackers in the second and only
one more Clinton goal was
recorded.
The next time these two teams
meet may tell a different story.
Assistant Coach Derek Cook
vowed to put in more time at the
next practice on rebounds, but was
otherwise content with the team's
efforts.
The next home game is Dec. 4 at
9 a.m.
the assist.
Tied through much of the con
test, Lucknow went ahead mid-way
through the third.
The Bantams settled for a l -1 tie
against Belmore, Nov. 21, in anoth
er action-packed game.
Laura Meier scored for Wing
ham, unassisted, at the 13:54 mark
of the second.
Victory was snatched from
Wingham when Laura McPherson
put the puck in for Belmore with 26
seconds left in the game. Lisa
Inglis got the assist.
Oops
The Blyth Novice goalie lost this one as it sailed over his shin pad into the net during a
match-up at home against Milverton on Wednesday night.
Atom Bulldogs settle for tie, loss
The Blyth Atom Bulldogs had to
settle for a tie and loss in play last
week when they met Howick and
Elma-Logan.
The squad welcomed Howick to
town, Nov. 18.
Josh Albrechtas made two great
solo efforts, taking the puck from
end to end for Blyth's first two
goals.
At 7:46 of the first, he lifted his
shot high on the goalie's blocker
side. He repeated the shot at 10:20
of the second.
Howick had also scored in the
first two frames, leaving the teams
tied as they entered the third.
Howick captured their first lead
at 2:31, but it was short-lived as
Brittney Peters tied it up with a
minute left. She picked up the
rebound off a Darcey Cook shot
that the Howick netminder was

Between the posts for Blyth, Joel
Salverda and Jeff Elliott came up
big to keep the Bulldogs in the
game.
Despite the rough nature of the
game with many checks handed
out, Coach Chad Haggitt said the
team “really played an inspiring
game. The skating legs were there
and better execution of the funda
mentals resulted.”
Blyth was handed a loss by
Elma-Logan, Nov. 20 when they
travelled to their opponents’ pond.
The Bulldogs got going a little
too late in this game, allowing
Elma-Logan to take a 5-0 lead into
the final minutes of the third.
The opponent scored one in the
first and four in the third, before
Blyth hit the net.
Richard Gregg passed to John
Bokhout for a goal at 1:46. Just 17
seconds later, Bokhout and Gregg
set up Justin Dobie for the score.
Elliott and Salverda shared net
duties.

The teams traded goals through
the first two periods with Bayfield

netted the puck off a pass from
Ryan McClinchey.
Bayfield hit the net at 12:05 of
the second then put a third one in to
take a 3-1 lead.
Brussels evened the tally when

the puck to Armstrong for his sec
ond.
