A Note from Betty
‘Tis the season - at least in the advertising sector of our life. We're to get
ready now and get at our Christmas shopping. The advertisers imply we’ll
miss something if we don’t hustle.
The church crowd is getting ready for the Advent season. That means
we’re in a waiting mode, preparing for the Christmas season and the
celebration of the birth of Christ 2,000 years ago.
Getting the balance between the meaning of that birth and the shopping
frenzy can be a challenge and each of us has to determine how we celebrate
Dec. 25. No matter how you celebrate just be sure you do it with good
sense. You know, lots of sleep, clear head decisions, proper meals and love
of family first. Enjoy!
It was good to read the letter from Brook Wheeler last week. Talking to
the gang who visited her they were impressed with Culver Academy, a
sports and military influence on 1800 acres of higher learning.
They all enjoyed the trip and visit and were pleased to report the local
paper is The Culver Citizen. No wonder you've settled in so well Brooklyn.
.Food bank drives are in high gear. The Scouting gang was out on Saturday
and many events ask for non-perishable donations as admission, as well
parade route collections are frequent in this season. Be sure to mark down
the date and time of community concerts, pageants and parades that you
hope to attend - the audience is a vital part.
Funerals and illness have made many folk in Brussels stop and
contemplate their life this past week. That's a good thing. We only get to
live once and so it's necessary to take stock once in a while.
As we finish up this century it's a relevant time to take that look. There is
still time to make the changes. Take a chance you might enjoy the new
improved you.
Enjoy your week - call a friend.
Bye now,
Betty G.

Recently, 40 people travelled to
Branson, Missouri on an eight-day
tour planned by Ellison Tours of
Exeter. Five from Brussels were
Muriel Whitfield, Jane Hall, Doris
Fischer, Audrey Cardiff and Betty
Campbell. On their way they had a
guided tour in St. Louis of the
Gateway Arch Complex, the Old
Cathedral, the huge Union Station,
and the Busch Brewery. .
The nine Christmas shows and
the Festival of Lights were
excellent. The Escort Jim Chapman
of Exeter, did an excellent job as he
had travelled there many times
before. The music, comedy and
costumes were something else the
women said.
