Kindergartens paint snowmen
By Jake Van Beek
and Matthew Kingswell
In November there are three days
that are important to the students at
Brussels Public School. They are:
Remembrance Day, Nov. 11, report
card day, Nov. 22 and best of all
the PA day on Nov. 26.
The kindergartens are working
on painting pictures of snowmen
and pumpkins and they are learning
nursery rhymes. Grade Is have
been reading books with their
reading buddies and have been
busy colouring bug pictures.
The Grade 2 class has had noses
to the grindstone. Students have
been learning about machines in
science. They are also working on
symmetry.
The amazing Grade 3s are
working on their posters for the
Santa Claus parade poster contest.
In French they are learning about
vegetables.
Mrs. Uhler's Grade 4 class is
learning about habitats and
communities. In French they are
creating clown masks for their
clown unit.
The Grade 5/6 class, and future
Brussels politicians, have been
studying the nations political
parties. Who knows maybe one day
there will be a prime minister from
the great viljage of Brussels.
They are also working hard on
our cumulative spelling list.
They’re up to 80 words this week.
The Grade 6/7 class has begun to
play volleyball for phys-ed. They
are also learning about space and
solar system in science.
The hard working Grades 7/8
class is busy doing novel studies
and art portfolios using the
elements and principle of art
design.
At the Branch
Busy week at Brussels Legion
By JoAnn McDonald
Remembrance Day saw a large
crowd on hand to observe the
laying of the wreaths and poppies
in honour of those who served our
country during the wars. A church
service followed at the Melville
Presbyterian Church led by Rev.
Cathrine Campbell. Everyone was
invited back to the Legion for a
light lunch.
Many of the Branch members
then went to Huronlea to conduct a
service of remembrance.
A full two-minutes of Silence
was observed at I l a.m. to mark
the occasion of the last
Remembrance Day of the century
and with a silent prayer that we not
have to endure any more wars in
any future generations.
We appreciate all those who
attended and all the businesses who
closed their doors or gave their
employees a chance to be silent on
Nov. 11.
Saturday was a full day of
activity at the Branch. The euchre
tournament had 10 tables of card
players vying for top prize.
Winning gentlemen were Glen
Sellers and Jim Coultes. Second
prize went to Stewart and Lois
Chamney. The third prize went to
Harvey Edgar and Ed Stewart. The
lucky lone hand winner for women
was Isabelle and for the men Jim.
Later Saturday evening the pipe
band dance with Beechwood
playing, entertained to a full house.
There were about 20 branch
members that travelled to Wingham
to play cribbage on Saturday as
well. They represented the Branch
well because four teams advanced
to play District cribbage in Tara.
Congratulations to all.
Thanks to Ann and Lisa for

night supper. Anyone is welcome

next year’s dues so get in and pay
your dues today. Anyone interested
in joining the Legion or inquiring
about the Legion feel free to call
the Branch after 4 p.m. at 887-
6562.
