Robertson speaks at Duff’s
■ Marilyn Robertson was the guest
speaker at Duff's United Church on
Nov. 14. She led the congregation
in the responsive Call to Worship.
The choir sang, As the Deer Pants
for Water which was taken from
the hymn book, Voices United.
She announced that the UCW
Mystery Tour will be Saturday.
Nov. 27. People are to meet at the
church at 3f3O p.m. Dinner will
follow the tour and the cost is
$13.50 per person. If interested
call, Judy Emmrich or Teresa or
Monique Baan.
Marilyn's sermon was called,
“Time, Talent and Treasure”. The
reading for the sermon was found
in Matthew 25. abou the tale of the
talents. Each servant was given
money and it was clear the master
wanted it back. It was not a loan,
not a gift and they were to keep"it
until the master returned.
The first servant invested it and
made more money for the master.
The second servant did the same.
The third servant was very
cautious, and lacked confidence in
himself and was afraid of
losingwhat he had so he returned
exactly what he had been given.
The story is really not about
money but about time, about how
to spend and use the time given,
said Robertson.
Home tour draws visitors
There were 11 tables of euchre
played at the Walton Hall last
Thursday. Congratulations to
Howard Hackwell and Don Nolan
who won the first place prize. Bob
and Dorothy Dalton took home
second place while George and
Gloria Love placed third. Ila
Pollock won the ladies’ lone hand
and Larry Elston won the men’s
lone hand.
If you noticed a lot more traffic
going through Walton this
weekend, it was because of the
Walton Christmas home tour. Each
of the six homes was done up a
little differently. If you ever
wondered how many different ways
there are to decorate a Christmas
tree you could have found out
there. There were banisters done
up, decorated mantles, hanging
swags, lots of gold and burgundy
colours, incredible smelling candles
of every shape and form.
To put people further into the
Christmas spirit, hot apple cider,
coffee and the most delicious and
festive squares and cookies were
served at the church which was also
done up in Christmas splendour.
I’m sure everyone went home
with ideas on how to decorate their

Walton kindergarten students
studied the letters C and K this past
week. Some new model cars were
added to the classroom as well.
They practised sorting the cars.
They played cards (Old Maid, Go
Fish). They learned cutting
techniques - snip, fringe and spiral
and they also practised colouring
very carefully.
The children learned about the
origin of poppies and at the
Remembrance Day Service they
sang the song We are Wearing
Poppies Today.
In preparation for Remembrance
Day Grade l/2s planned how they
could create peace at home, at
school and around the world. They
memorized a poem about getting to
know children around the world
called Face to Face to-present at the
school Remembrance Day
assembly and sang / had the
Strangest Dream. They collected
the names of peaceful and war-like
characters from storybooks, TV
and movies.
For Grade 3 creative writing,
students wrote about squirrels.
After reading poems and
developing story maps, each child
did a story.
For the Remembrance Day
assembly they did the Missing
Peace puzzle of the world. They
built a world of peaceful words
such as love, compromise, co
operate. freedom, protect and hero.
But one piece of the puzzle was
missing.
They also did a reading about
poppies and they made a wreath.
The Grade 4s made a wreath for
the service and posters depicting
assembly. They tuned into the
service on TV on Parliament Hill
and everyone took part in the wave
of silence for the two minutes.
events and objects from war.
JoAnn McDonald, representing
the Brussels Legion, was the guest
speaker at their Remembrance Day
