Atom team wins 2, loses 1 Strong defense and a couple of very fast skaters on the Zurich squad gave the Brussels Tykes a real battle, Nov. 13. Chris Becker took to the net, deflecting, poking away and hold ing the puck at the post against strong offensive play by the visi tors. Matt Huether, Gavin Bowers and Nic Gowing helped out on defense, clearing the puck and slowing the attack. Brendan Stretton and Ray Huether worked well together on their line, combining tor several good shots on net. Zurich got on the scoreboard first, sliding one between the goalie's pads. M. Huether soon evened the tally when he picked up a rebound and carried it the full length of the ice. Zurich jumped into the lead quickly in the second period when Becker was fooled on his glove side. After a scramble out front, Zurich slid in their third netter. A poor clearing pass by Brussels set up an easy goal for their oppo nent as the puck laid on the goal line waiting to be tapped in. M. Huether brought Brussels to within two late in the second period when he took the puck at centre and went in alone. He had another great opportunity soon afterwards when he split the defenders, but the Zurich netminder stopped the shot. Good digging around the oppo nents’ net by Randy Zwep. Stretton brought the score to 4-3 at the 6:25 mark of the third when he slid it in at the side. Andrew Watson deflected a shot before M. Huether and Cronin just missed on scoring chances. In the final three minutes of the match, Zurich blew open the game, putting in three past a sprawling netminder, two on breaks and one from a face-off.
