Co-ordinator to focus
on summer activities
By Janice Becker
Citizen staff
With the industrial hockey sea
son already underway, Blyth coun
cil suggested Chad Haggitt focus
on developing plans for summer
recreation programs to be presented
to the recreation committee.
Haggitt had approached council
some time ago about a full-time
position with the village as a recre
ation co-ordinator. However,
expense and finding enough work
to fill the hours were concerns.
Councillor Jeff Howson reported
on a meeting held between himself,
on behalf of council, and Haggitt,
to discuss the potential for contract
jobs to deal with specific sports or
activities.
Howson said they discussed an
hourly rate for contract work, based
on the full-time annual salary of
approximately $24,000 which Hag
gitt had previously quoted.
Councillors expressed concern
about paying the full cost of the
service, saying some leagues, such
as adult hockey and baseball have,
in the past, covered the cost of a
co-ordinator.
It was suggested Haggitt begin
planning for the baseball season,
trailer park use and possibly a sum
mer children’s program where user
fees would cover much of the cost
of his services.
Once Haggitt has developed
some initiatives, a meeting will be
set with the village’s recreation
committee for further discussion.
Feast and frolic at Blyth
What on earth’s a Christmas
Panto?
Why, an English tradition as old
as “Santo.”
Jack in the Beanstalk may be the
main story
But the jokes by Dave Scott will
tickle a Tory,
And municipal politicians will
get palpitations
When they see Roulston’s dance
of amalgamations.
The story is set in the Kingdom
of Byth.
(Where the “L” went is part of
the myth.)
The village depends on a big
woolen mill
But the giant steals Jayne,
creating great ill.
Seventeen actors, (your friend or- .
a neighbour)
Are the townsfolk who set out to
save her..
Adults will hoot and kids will
giggle
When they see Bruce Whitmore
as Mrs. Wiggle.
Carol Oriold is the most
gorgeous of witches,
Janet Baillie, the fairy, will have
you in stitches.
Dan and Marg Webster have
specially BIG parts,
While Cappy Onn sings her way
to your hearts.
The clowns are played by Curtis
DeBoer
And Charmain Hills, with sight
gags galore.
Jeanette Harris, Jean Schobel,
and Curtis Diehl,
Zoe Onn and Jeff Caslick make
up the giant's meal.
Sarah Gedke, Isaac Fisher and
Lisa Black,
Must also be rescued by Teag
Onn as JACK.
John Battye’s music will set toes
a tappin',
Blyth Festival’s where it’s all
going to happen.
So come hiss the villain and
cheer the hero!
