Frank Mills stops in Blyth
on final concert circuit
THE CITIZEN, WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 3, 1999. PAGE 23.
World’s smallest team
comes to Goderich
A fond farewell
Well-known performer Frank Mills will be bringing his
special-music to Blyth. This will be his final appearance
on stage.
After 30 years criss-crossing
Canada performing his own
internationally known
compositions Canadian composer,
pianist, and entertainer, Frank
Mills, has decided to pack it in.
His final Blyth concert will take
place Dec. 5 in the Memorial Hall
in Blyth.
Following the termination of
concert touring, Mills intends to
continue to record for EMI records
and to devote more energy to
composing and relaxing.
“I just think it is time,” says
Mills whose international hit
recording earned him the label of
Mr. Music Box Dancer. “I believe
to each talent there is a season and I
feel so fortunate mine has lasted
this long.”
The Celebration of Christmas
Tour, he said, seems a most
appropriate way to say goodbye
and to say thanks for a fantastic
career.
A Celebration of Christmas
features Mills and his group of
talented musicians whose annual
performances have become as
anticipated by audiences in various
areas of the country as the season
itself.
The traditional presentation is a
highly entertaining way to celebrate
the festive season. The
participation of familiar voices,
The Blyth Community Church
Choir directed by Barbara Bosman
will lend even more meaning to the
program’s spirit.
“No doubt about it, this tour is
bound to tug at the emotions, but
then, Christmas is a very emotional
time. One of my great joys is to
present the wonderful, well known
music of Christmas” said Mills.
“It’s a big bonus to work with such
an enthusiastic group of local
singers as well. Following each
concert, I look forward to
personally saying thank you to
friends and fans for their loyalty.
So I guess you can see what I mean
when I say, this is going to be
emotional.”
A combination of Mills’ popular
compositions (Music Box Dancer,
Peter Piper, the Happy Song) along
with seasonal selections (Joy to the
World, Silent Night, White
Christmas, Somewhere a Child is
Sleeping) will blend to produce a
combination of masterful piano and
vocal harmony.
A Celebration of Christmas with
Mills and special guest the Blyth
Community Church Choir will take
place Sunday, Dec. 5 at 8 p.m. at
the Memorial Hall in Blyth. Tickets
are $25 ($28 at door) and are
available at Ernie King’s (1993
Limited), Wingham, & Goderich;

The Canadian Half-Pints are
challenging the Crime Stoppers’
Celebrity Basketball Team at the
Annual Mini-Hoops Basketball
Benefit coming to Goderich
District Collegiate Institute, Friday
Nov. 19 at 6 and 8 p.m.
They’re considered the world’s
shortest and funniest basketball
team and have often been
compared with the Harlem
Globetrotters. Like the world-
famous Globetrotters, the Half
Pints have lost only ll times in
over 3,500 games over the past 17
years.
Under the dynamic leadership of
founder Phil Watson (son of former
World Heavy Weight Pro
Wrestling Champion Whipper Billy
Watson) the Canadian Half-Pints’
members have inspired young
people to embrace the message
they send in their “Don’t Tease”
Program presented at schools in
every city they tour.
Despite the skeptics, these 4'2"
athletes have proven their
basketball success and overcome
many obstacles in life while at the
same time providing family fun
