Beef supper big success In talking with a few of the members of the hall board, I learned that the roast beef supper last week brought in $610. The members were pleased with the great turnout and would like to thank everyone for supporting the hall. Chris Lee, a member of the board, said he feels these meals help develop a sense of community with their neighbours. - Another chance to enjoy a visit with your neighbours will be at the Walton church turkey supper Nov. 3. It should be a very interesting event. Shannon’s Haunted House and Halloween party was a huge success, thanks to many helping hands. There was a graveyard scene, funeral parlour, a horror aged by what they hear. Like the old gentlemen who came to church wearing a suit and a hat. It was noticed that he never removed his hat during the service. The hat remained on his head. The usher went to him and told him that it was the custom of the congregation to remove one’s hat during the service. Then an elder of the church went and told him the same thing. He did not remove his hat. It was then that they sent a persuasive member of the iadies group up to explain the customs of the congregation to the newcomer. Still no luck. At the end of the service the minister explained to the man about their custom. The man replied, “I’ve been attending this church for four years and today was the first time anyone spoke to me. Today I was greeted by an usher, an elder, and a beautiful lady and now by you. At least I was noticed.” Next Sunday Joan Golden from Monkton will be the guest speaker. The Grade 3s spent the week reading and writing about Halloween adventures. Mimi visits Walton Inn It’s interesting how you can go somewhere and never in your wildest imaginings plan on running into a celebrity but that is what happened to people who wandered into the Walton Inn on Saturday. People could not believe their eyes and I’m sure some wished that they hadn’t opened their eyes, when they were greeted (attacked may have been a better word), at the door with a Mimi hug. Drew Carry, (the Pig! according to Mimi) couldn’t make it so she had fun giving out poor, rude service and hurling insults at the customers, including calling many of them nasty names.
