The high scores for the evening went to Evelyn Christensen for the ladies, while Lawrence Plaetzer earned the title for the high man. The most lone hands were earned by Vera Hesselwood and Ell Lapp, while the low scores were captured by Marjory East and Ruth Shiell playing as a man. Weekly euchre games begin at 8 p.m. every Monday night. Halloween weekend was quiet in our community, thus proving to us that people donating their time to patrol the area pays off. Special thanks to everyone involved! I am sure that everyone is aware this week deer season is in full swing again. Hunters are out there to catch the species that is becoming more and more of a hazard. Well over 130 accidents involving deer in Huron Colinty recently have been reported by Sr. Const. Don ShropshalL Many others occurred, but people may not call it in. For their records, the Ministry of Natural Resources in Clinton would appreciate the information. They can be reached at 482-3428 during working hours. Keep in mind that this year the hunting season has been extended for the week of Nov. 29 - Dec. 4 also. In another landfill site issue, the committee is dealing with old asphalt which has been dumped into the site along with sand, dirt, stone and other debris. The larger chunks, estimated at five, will be removed from the site and taken to Lavis Contracting for recycling. It is unlikely the particles will be able to be removed because they are mixed with other materials. According to guidelines set by the Ministry, of the Environment and Energy, asphalt is not allowed in landfill sites due to the potential for leaching. However, Stewart said ministry officials said it probably would not hurt anything because it was old asphalt. A letter from Maitland Engineering Services said the asphalt was not visible during a site inspec tion. Locks on the landfill site gates will also be changed. (Vicky Bremner photo) Area students win at cross-country Hockey coaches plan fundraiser for future A group of Blyth hockey coaches has organized a fundraising raffle to establish the Blyth and District Community Centre Capital Fund. Dwight Chalmers, Todd MacDonald, Steven Sparling and Scott Stevenson presented information at the September Blyth Minor Hockey meeting and launched the raffle mid-October. Response has been encouraging. As of Saturday, one-third of the $50 tickets had been sold. The Grand Prize drawing will be at 9 a.m. Christmas Eve Day, for a 2000 Chevy Z7 1 extended cab pickup truck valued at $44,270 and the winner chooses the colour. “Odds of winning are great”, said Chalmers. “Only 1,500 tickets will be sold.” Net proceeds from the raffle will be placed in the fund, and should this become an annual fundraising project, future proceeds would be similarly invested. In addition to the loaded pickup, there are two Early Bird Bonus drawings, Nov. 27 for 10 free tickets, and Dec. 1 1 for an authentic, autographed Wayne Gretzky jersey. All drawings will be held at the Village of Blyth municipal office. Winners need not be present. “Objectives of the raffle are simple: to prove to ourselves that we, as a community, are capable of a project such as this, and prepare for the inevitable capital projects the Community Centre will require in the near future. It seems responsible we begin- preparing, today,” said Sparling. “Tickets are being bought for Christmas presents, and several local businesses are considering tickets as gifts for their employees,” said MacDonald.
