The success rate is usually in the 30 to 40 per cent range. For those applying for tags, 2,649 were issued. Hunters may only participate in one hunt, said Malhiot. Two dates were set to separate the hunters tem porally, for safety reasons. All tag holders are required to sub mit a report, whether they hunt or not so the MNR can track the total har vest and what animals made up the kill. A future option to control the pop ulation may be multiple deer allowed per hunter. Archery season is open from Oct. 1 to Dec. 31, excluding the gun hunt ing weeks. They may take bucks or deer with antlers, but require a spe cial tag to take deer without antlers. Bow hunters often achieve a success rate of 10 to 15 per cent. Malhiot said he has heard farmers’ concerns about crop damage and spoken with the OPP regarding colli sions. Any deer/vehicle collision causing more than $1,000 damage or if per sonal injury is involved must be reported to police. If a deer is killed, call the MNR.
