JU i •n ■W L * 9 Of-WaiF F - ; __ EVELYN KENNEDY Peace came for Evelyn Kennedy on Thursday, Oct. 7, 1999, at Huronlea Home in Brussels, in her 92nd year. The beloved wife of the late Roy Kennedy, she leaves behind to celebrate her life, son Robert Kennedy and his wife Debbie of Grand Bend, son David Kennedy and his wife Louise of Winnipeg, seven grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Born in Baden, ON, Evelyn experienced family responsibilities early when her mother died young. She moved with her father, Nathan Chapman to Brussels where she met and married Roy Kennedy. This started a career of over 40 years in the newspaper business. For most of that time she worked hard over long hours to meet the weekly deadline of The Brussels Post as well as the demands of raising two sons. A weekly column by Evelyn reflected her varied interests and loves. Short Shots presented her thoughts about local events, the weather, national and international affairs, or her dog - and sometimes all in the same issue. Evelyn believed strongly in volunteer service in her community and dedicated many years to producing and directing variety reviews and plays. These fundraising efforts showcased children, teens and adults, talented and not-so-talented members of the local community. This strong volunteer commitment was recognized when she was honoured with a community volunteer award. Evelyn and Roy sacrificed much for their sons. Her love of music encouraged and nurtured that same response in both boys, resulting in life-long achievement and satisfaction for them. Her kind and gentle spirit nurtured in them a strong concern for others. The love of family continued to grow with her seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. They gave her great joy and were a constant source of pleasure. Their visits and calls always delighted her. Evelyn, this world is better for your having been here. You will continue to be treasured in lhe memories of your family, relatives and friends. Friends were received by the family from 2 - 4 and 7 - 9 p.m. Friday at the Schimanski Family Funeral Home, Brussels, where the funeral service was conducted on Saturday, Oct. 9 at 2 p.m. with Rev. Nancy Beale of St. John’s Anglican Church officiating. Pallbearers were Samantha Pershaw, Andy Kennedy, Adrian Kennedy, Bob Kennedy, Peter Hemingway and Bob Cammidge.
