Congratulations for the hard work The news from ranbrook | Compiled by Peter Hagedoorn Phone 887-6935 5 tables in play at euchre party Accepting the honour Grey Central Public School principal Cheryl Peach was delighted to accept a painting by Auburn-area artist Paul Martellacci in honour of the school earning a Huron Stewardship Council Landscape Naturalization Award. Council member Steve Bowers presented the award last Friday. Auxiliary plans tea The Sept. 27 meeting of the Auxiliary to the Wingham and District Hospital was held in the board room with 14 ladies present. Vice-President Brenda Anger presided over the meeting, welcomed the ladies and led in the Auxiliary prayer. The minutes of the June 28 meeting were read and approved. The fall tea invitations were sent to many local and area groups. Anger reminded all to keep track of volunteer hours for the hospital. There is to be a creative leadership course held in Clinton on Oct. 20 and anyone interested is to contact Helen Daugherty or Anger. The fall tea was held at the home of Marie Phillips on Wednesday. Sept. 29 at 10 - 11:30 a.m. and 1 - 3:30 p.m. The fall rummage sale will be on Oct. 14-15 and fall and winter items only are requested. Volunteers are needed for the Wingham and Area Adult Day Centre. Shirley Kaufman, Meria Frank and Mary Williams remain as the Christmas Decorating Committee. Kara Kassen, the occupational therapist, demonstrated the perceptual evaluation manual and kit purchased by the Auxiliary for the assessment of patients with stroke or any type of brain damage. Volunteers are needed for the church services at the hospital during November. A bursary will be given to a deserving high school student entering the health related field, at the F.E. Madill Secondary School Commencement on Oct. 8. WEST WAWANOSH TOWNSHIP 1999 TAXES DUE Friday, October 15,1999 This final tax installment is for Residential, Farm & Managed Forest taxes only. Taxes may be paid in person at the Municipal Office located on Sideroad 18/19, Lot 18, Con. 8 or mailed to West Wawanosh Township, R.R. #2 Lucknow, Ont., NOG 2H0. Interest at 1 1/4% per month or any part therefore will be charged after this due date. Note: Persons who have not acquired a tax bill should contact the Clerk s Office. Failure to receive a tax bill does not relieve a taxpayer from responsibility for payment of taxes, nor from penalty for late payment. Edwin Sebel of Canada Trust in Listowel and Friends of the Environment presented the school with the book for their environmental efforts. Several families were also recognized at the appreciation ceremony, Friday, for their dedication to the Earth Friendly Garden over the summer. They were Jill and Don Sholdice, Elizabeth and Dick Dewit, Elaine and Brian Armstrong, Kimberley and Peter Hammermueller, Shirley and Charles Burgess, Sharon and Murray Clarke, Dawn and Jeff Smith, Jennifer and Steve Cochrane and Shirley and Alan Baker. 4-Hers judge at On Tuesday, Sept. 14 at around 7:30 p.m. at the Brussels Fall Fair the Ethel - St. Columban Jughead Judges held their third meeting. When they arrived Mrs. De Wit explained how they were to judge the two classes: group displays of memorabilia, and a cucumber contest. The fourth meeting was on Saturday, Sept. 18 at the 4-H regional Fun Day at the Western Fair in London. At about 9:30 a.m. when registration was finished they were split into 12 groups to judge the six classes: dairy cows and beef heifers, decorated birdhouses and flowerpots, gilts, soybeans, displays of pine needles, and WI displays. When they were finished judging, at around 12:30 p.m., they went the Top of the Fair for lunch. The first euchre party of the season was held in the Cranbrook Community Hall last Friday. Five tables were in play. Winners were: high lady, Isabelle Gray; high man, Allan Kennedy; low lady, Marion Harrison; low man. Ross Stephenson; travelling lone hand. Mary Davidson; most Monetary contribution Edwin Sebel, representing Canada Trust in Listowel and Friends of the Environment, presented Grey Central Public School Principal Cheryl Peach with $3,000, Oct. 1. The grant was earned by the school for the effort to improve the environment at the school as well as benefit the community. Farmer finds pot plot On Oct. 1 at approximately 6:45 p.m. Huron OPP officers were called to a farm on Cone. 4 of McKillop Twp. over marijuana plants being found in a com field.
