11999 Huron Pioneer Thresher Reunion & Hobby Show
Squires gets cars in line for Thresher Reunion
THEY'RE CLASSICS
People at the Thresher Reunion can often see a rotating display of antique automobiles parked at the diamond as many
cars arrive and are parked just for the day to be replaced by a new set of wheels the next day.
he has been the chair of the antique car
committee.
The exhibit is unique at the show. Squires
says, in that it is the only one that tends to
rotate. “People drive their antique auto the
Reunion for the day and park, then leave and
another comes in. They change by the day. It
is probably the most changing exhibit of the

Defining what is an antique is one of the
big debates the committee has, says Squires.
“We ask that they be at least 30 years old

Gary Squires was just a young boy when
he first heard about the Thresher Reunion in
Blyth. “I was at one of the very first ones

it was also the first time I had ever seen a
steam engine,” he says.
The fascination was obviously enduring.
Though Squires missed a few years of
attending, the purchase of a 1931 Ford 26
years ago brought him back to the event and
he's never missed since.
As seems to be typical of Reunion
enthusiasts, Squires became more involved
with each passing year. For the past several

having it ready for anything, such as he did
with displaying the Cockshutt at the Reunion
and IPM, Jean points out there is all the.time
in the world to complete it. “I’m glad he has
a hobby he enjoys. There’s not always much
too do in the winter and this will keep him
busy. It’s good to have something to get
interested in. ”
