group has also travelled to other
parts of the world including France,
Spain, Germany, India, Indonesia,

group's second visit to Canada and
the dancers and musicians will be
performing throughout

The Waterloo County and Area
Quilt Festival is pleased to
announce that Calls for Entry are
available for its premiere event in
the year 2000, the Ontario Juried
Quilt Show.
Established in 1996, the Juried
Show was designed to encourage
high standards of quilting;
recognize the evolving nature of
quilting and celebrate the social
function that quilting played and
continues to play in Ontario
communities today. The Juried
Show, which is both competition
and exhibition, welcomes entries
from individual quilt artists,
quilting groups and guilds from
across Ontario and offers cash
prizes in a number of categories as
Clarifying
the story
There was an error in the story
“Design team makes it work” pub
lished in last week’s issue of The
Citizen regarding the acquisition of
the threshing machine used for
parts.
Hearing that the theatre was
looking for a threshing machine
Boyd and Muriel Taylor donated a
Geo. White #6 24x42 machine ear
lier this summer.
Built around 1950 and owned by
a group of farmers on Cone. 9,
Morris Twp., the late James Gib
son, William Cockerline and Ken
neth Taylor, the machine was used
for stook threshing until 1955.
Because of Mr. Cockerline’s sale
it was decided to terminate the syn
dicate at which time Kenneth Tay
lor purchased the machine. It
continued to be used on the Taylor
Farm until 1967 when the combine
was introduced.
well as a Viewers’ Choice.
The 2000 Juried Show promises
to be bigger and better than ever. If
trends continue, it will certainly
outdistance the excellence,
innovation and visual impact of
previous shows.
New this year is the Award of
Excellence which will go for
“creative use of patterned fabric”
and the opportunity for quilters to
be a part of a unique millennium
project.
Details are now being confirmed
for an exciting exchange which will
make possible the exhibition of a
collection quilts from South Africa
at the Waterloo County and Area
Quilt Festival and the travel of our
Juried Show quilts to South Africa
in the fall of 2000.
The 1999 show was, of course, a
huge success winning admiration
from quilters and respect from
regular gallery goers. It attracted
over 8,000 visitors from across
Ontario during its month-long run,
many of whom cast ballots for the
Viewer’s Choice which this year
went to Marie Ha IJ's (Point
Edward) Finding the Way.
Entries for the show which runs
from May 18 through June 25 at
Kitchener-Waterloo Art Gallery
must be in by April 1. Calls for
Entry can be procured by calling
the Joseph Schneider Haus at 519-
742-7752 or K-W Art Gallery at
519-579-5860.
