It was a balancing act for this Palmerston 2 U-7 player as
he juggled the ball during a tournament game against
Brussels. The Brussels squad was ousted in the semi
finals for the A championship when they met a very tough
Elma team which nipped them 4-3. Dozens of U-7, U-9
and U-11 teams were in town on Saturday for their year-
end playoffs.

The Women’s Missionary
Society of Brussels Presbyterian
Church met in the Church Aug. 9
with Whitechurch WMS as guests.
They are Brussels twin society.
Helen Elliott, the president,
welcomed everyone and used
gardens as the topic for the
meeting. This was incorporated in
her opening theme and prayer.
The pledge from the WMS card
was repeated and In The Garden
was sung.
. Five members from Brussels and
five from Whitechurch were in
attendance.
The Bible reading, Chapter 2 of
Genesis was read. Mrs. Elliott
commented on the book How Can I
Be Over the Hill When / Haven't
Seen the Top.
The chapter Down in the Garden
Eating Worms was highlighted.
When the author feels unloved she
must make the move to love other
people. People must do that too, to
be happy.
Mary Huether then led in prayer.
Rev. Cathrine Campbell gave a
very interesting and informative
message on gardens. The Old
Testament has 42 references to
gardens and the New Testament
only two. Some types of gardens
are vegetable cemetery and
entertainment centre gardens. The
Bible gardens of Italy have no
flowers, only statues with
fountains.
All gardens spring from God and
The regular meeting of the
Brussels Morris and Grey Board of
Recreation Management was held
on Aug. 11.
Paul Gowing reported on some
problems with the wading pool
which need to be addressed before
the start of another swimming
season. The paint in the wading
pool is peeling, which means the
pool will need to be refinished and
a solution will need to be found
regarding the filtering of the
wading pool.
Gowing also discussed the idea
that was mentioned at the previous
recreation meeting about installing
the chain link fence around the
"big” pool. It was the consensus of
the board to present both the
problems concerning the wading
pool and the fence pool to the
Lions Club for input.
It was decided the board needs to
have more control over the hours
that the pool is open, the hours that
the lifeguards are working and the
weather conditions that the pool is
to remain open in.
It was agreed that for this year
the pool will remain open to the
public for swimming until Sept. 5.
Secretary-Treasurer Shelly Pryce
indicated a notice had been
are beautiful, she said.
Leona Armstrong took up the
offering and the president gave the
offertory prayer.
Isobel Gibson read an interesting
reading, Changes from Yesterday
Until Today. Changes are hard to
accept but are necessary for
growth.
Leona Armstrong demonstrated
an everyday survival kit and
presented everyone present with a
kit and an International Plowing
Match program.

A Note from Betty
Busy place this weekend - small people tearing around in soccer
uniforms, vehicles with motorcycles in tow, folks celebrating upcoming
weddings and the usual travel of summer.
Everyone had somewhere to be. If you had connections with the Optimist
Club you were in food up to your elbows feeding the thousands at the
motocross in Walton. If you are part of the soccer movement you were out
in a field watching a soccer ball and lots of runners. Families were together
making wedding plans and just having fun.
Don and Sue McNeil and crew are resting! Their project for the past few
months was a success, turning a garage into a wedding place! When I first
came to Brussels, Don’s dad, Jim, did repairs on cars and farm machinery in
that shop so I’m sure Jean relived pleasant memories as the kids found new
homes for the accumulation of parts.
I used to take a rent check to Jim for $65 - that was 1970. The building is
now ready for its next life after seeing Dan and Jen married there on
Saturday.
Kids’ Comer was a roaring success. About 70 kids daily brought their
energy and enthusiasm to learn about Simon Peter and working in
community. The five churches worked together to co-ordinate this Vacation
Bible School and kids and adults alike report that it was a great time. Daily
offering bought 50 school kits to send overseas where admission to school is
determined by availability of these supplies - good work Kids.
I’m heading for Hallville this week so you'll have to look out for your
own news. My four brothers and as many of our families as we can gather
will be together the last weekend of August. It’s been two years since I’ve
seen the Edmonton folk and Christmas since the Hamilton and Brantford
ones visited - so needless to say I can hardly wait.
To save you a trip to the atlas Hallville is midway between Kemptville
and Winchester and about the size of Walton.
So I’m on vacation and expect to do as little as possible except read, eat
and talk.
Enjoy the last few days of summer. Do as YOU please.
Bye now,
Betty G.
