16 compete in lawn bowling
The Brussels Ladies’ Lawn
bowling tournament, sponsored by
Mabel Wheeler was held at the
greens Thurs., Aug. 4 with 16
teams participating.
Winners were: first, Audrey
Hepburn and Sheila Long,
Stratford, three wins 44 plus one;
second, Delphine Dewar and
Maxine Hunking, Atwood, three
wins 38; third, Selina Ducklow and
June Moore, Mitchell, two wins 38
plus one; fourth. Mickey
Kuindersma and Gladys Cook,

Rev. Ross returns from east
Rev. Paul Ross and his wife Ruth
have returned from their holiday in
the East. They had an enjoyable
trip and the Auburn congregation
are happy to have them back with
us again.
The Auburn and community is
sorry to hear that Ethel Ball had a
heart attack and is a patient at
Stratford General Hospital. Our

Cheerios meet in Bayfield -
The July meeting of the Cheerio
Club was held on Thursday, June
29. Members had lunch at the
Bayfield Inn and then proceeded to
the cottage of Genevieve Allen at
Pine lake. Roll call was taken with
10 members present. The
treasurer’s report was given and
minutes of the July meeting were
read. Collection was taken. The
draw donated by June was won by
Mary East.

Lois Haines was one of the
Clinton bowlers responsible for the
tournament on Wednesday. It was a
real success. Bowlers came from
great distances for the occasion. A
Clinton bowler was not needed
because there were enough outside
bowlers for the games. It was a
very enjoyable tournament.

Church was held at Londesboro
United Church on Sunday, Aug. 1.
Greeters were Neil and Eileen
Salverda. Our minister Paul Ross
was back after a month’s holiday.

On Monday, July 26, Brussels 2
travelled to Mornington Central
School for a 7:00 p.m. game
against Newton 1.
With the team being short of
players meaning there could be no
substitutions, they played the whole
game very well.
Changing their positions the team
put a lot of effort with much of
action on the field.
Cody Subject scored three goals
and Justin Pipe scored another goal
Kayla Bishop leads U-9s
to victory over Listowel
On July 19, the Brussels 4 U-9
soccer team travelled to Listowel to
play Listowel 4.
Kayla Bishop led the Brussels
team with three goals against the
Listowel squad. Tyler Dietner and
Cayli Hunt rounded out the scoring
with two goals and one goal
respectively for a 6-2 victory for
Brussels.
Elma 3 visited Brussels 4 on July
26. The Brussels team worked hard
but even with a goal by Tyler

The rematch was held Aug. 2
with Brussels on the winning end.
A netter by Prior was the only
score of the game.
Strong offensive play was shown
by Prior, Ben Gowing, Ryan Jutzi,
for Brussels to win 4-1 against
Newton.
Their last game was played on
Monday, Aug. 2 against Newton 2
at Momington school.
Cody Subject, Chelsey McLellan
and Justin Pipe shared the
goaltending for this game.
Short on their players for this
game, the team played very hard
the whole game in different
positions.
Lacey and Kristen McArter made
Dietner and Andrew VanVliet, they
couldn’t pull ahead of the strong
Elma team, losing 3 - 2.
Brussels 4 regained its winning
form again on Aug. 2, the last game
of the regular season, beating a
strong Elma 2 team 3 -2. Kayla
Bishop and Andrew VanVliet put
the goals on the score sheet and a
great team effort helped to defend
and hold the lead.
Coaches Mike Watson and Kevin
Bishop were pleased with the
efforts of all the players.
Karri Bell, Taylor Runstedler and
Sarah Baker.
Lucas Biesinger, Janelle Bondi,
Jessica Berlet-Kuntz, Danica Zwep
and Nick Durrell did their best to
keep Elma at bay.
Cronin made some excellent
saves between the posts.

great moves keeping the ball out of
their end. Jolanda Smith and
Kaylea Brunk kept the ball moving
up for Devan Warwick to kick the
ball into the Newton end. There

Despite a lot of fast action and
hard playing Brussels took a loss
against Newton with the game
ending 2-1.
