Stag <& Doe for Becky McArter & Mike Golley FRIDAY, AUGUST 6 at BMG Community Centre 9 p.m. -1 a.m. Tickets $5.00 Lunch Provided Age of Majority Required ‘Reaper’ comes to Blyth I'll Be Back Before Midnight author. Peter Colley has created another comic hit, opening at the Blyth Festival on Friday, July 30 at 8 p.m. in the Garage Theatre. When the Reaper Calls has garnered rave reviews for Colley’s terrific combination of laughs and intrigue in this fast-paced tale of two philosophy professors who try to disprove each other’s theories by staging an elaborate prank. All this leads to a deadly competition and each of the long-suffering wives concocts a desperate action of her own. Throw in an over-zealous young cop longing for a crime to solve and it’s no wonder that the critics have exclaimed: “Murder and mayhem abound”, “A fun evening” and “This play has it all - suspense, humour and the supernatural.” This popular comedy-thriller comes from the pen of one of Canada’s winning writers, with his plays translated into several languages including sign-language. Colley’s play I’ll Be Back Before Midnight which premiered at Blyth in 1979, was named in a 1998 Toronto Globe and Mail retrospective on Canadian theatre as “probably the most produced Canadian play ever.” This one play has grossed over $8 million worldwide! When the Reaper Calls has played to sell-out crowds wherever it has been produced and it looks like the Blyth production will be no exception. This production is selling well, and the Festival has added an additional matinee performance on Sunday, Aug. 15 at 2 p.m. Artistic Associate Eric Coates, returning for his fifth consecutive season at the Festival, is directing this comedy, beginning his professional directing career. The Garage Theatre set is an exceptional design by Blyth newcomer Deeter Schurig with special lighting created by Michael Kruse and cottage and mayhem sound effects by Doug Morum.
