Prayer policy Continued from page 6 irrelevant. The Supreme Court has ruled the Charter guarantees a freedom of religion but the freedom from religion also exists. Thirdly, it is irresponsible for parents to expect teachers and schools to take on the responsibility of the parents’ job of parenting and the socialization of children. Teachers already have enough to do without being saddled with a role they can’t perform. Children learn their moral and ethical values and behaviours from their parents. Fourthly, if Lori Pipe doesn’t like what the public school system has to offer, which is probably one of the best in the world, then she should switch to the separate school and not involve council. She has the option to say her prayers with her children. Religious practices are best left to one’s home, church, mosque, synagogue, etc Canada is a secular democracy. Brussels council has stepped out of its bounds of jurisdiction and responsibilities and should remedy the situation. Douglas Trollope.
