From the Minister's Study ‘Protect me from the notion I have it worked out’ By Les Cook Blyth Community Church of God The past two weeks my family and I have been working at children’s camps. We have written and produced several programs over the last nine or 10 years for this purpose. This has given us many opportunities to be involved in a lot of children’s summer activities. It always amazes me that these children who are so keen to get'out of school for summer holidays are so excited to enrol in these camps where there is so much structure. Unlike most adults these people are able to have fun and learn at the same time. It is so refreshing to be in the company of people who are still growing. Everything they do they do as if it were some sort of an adventure. A trip to the creek to catch craw-dads, a Bible story told with flannel-graph, or watching a puppet show, it makes no difference to them their minds are open to anything new and exciting. The more they can take in the better. When the disciples saw that Jesus was getting tired one day they thought they would do him a big favour by protecting him from the children. They began to send the children away because they did not see in them what He could see. Jesus recognized the energy that was coming from them and instructed his disciples to bring to him all that would come. And then he said something strange, “The kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.” Surely he did not mean that these little kids had a better grasp on the kingdom of heaven than an adult with all his or her education and experience? I think what he was saying was that in order for us to see all the wonderful things God has for us we need to first start to enjoy the learning process again, secondly treat everything we can do as an adventure and finally ask a lot of questions. These are the things that children do and these are the things that can drive adults mad when we stop appreciating the energy that Multiple Sclerosis Society of Canada 1-800-268-7582 flows from a person who is still in the learning process. In Blyth this week the streets will be tilled with young ones going to and from Daily Vacation Bible School. If you should meet one of them give them a smile and encourage them to have fun as they learn. Then pray for those who are working at the DVBS as they are the ones who are creating the adventure, teaching the lesson and endeavouring to answer all the questions. Most importantly look into the eyes of the children and see the enthusiasm for life and ask yourself, do I still have that zeal for life? Do I still have great Calling all citizens Cornelius, aka Jane Klasen^ called out a king’s message during the first day of Bible School at Blyth Christian Reformed Church, Monday. In 1 Corinthians 2:9 Paul refers to an old scripture that says “eye has not seen, ear has not heard, no mind has conceived what God has in store for those who love him”. If this is true at what age should we stop being like children? At what point can you and I assume that we have received all that our creator has in store for us?
